Prince Vikings Song Audio Purple Gold Lyrics
Prince's Vikings song, "Purple and Gold," has hit the web.

Prince has written a song about the Minnesota Vikings in honor of the team's victory over the Dallas Cowboys last weekend and their upcoming NFC Championship game matchup against the New Orleans Saints.

(SCROLL DOWN TO HEAR THE SONG)

According to MyFoxTwinCities.com, the world-famous musician and Minnesota native said he "saw the future" after Sunday's win and ended up writing "Purple and Gold" later that night.

Amazingly, this is the second music story about the Vikings to emerge this week. After the Vikings won on Sunday, Brett Favre made waves by performing "Pants on the Ground" and energetically slapping his teammates in the ass. Scroll down to listen to Prince's song and to read the lyrics. Thanks to SportsByBrooks for the tip.

Quick Poll

What do you think of Prince's ode to the Vikings?

Amazing. He's still got it!

Nothing special.

Total disaster. He should stick to "Erotic City."

LYRICS:

Purple and Gold Lyrics

the veil of the sky draws open
the roar of the chariots touch down
we r the ones who have now come again
and walk upon water like solid ground
as we approach the throne we won't bow down
this time we won't b denied

raise every voice and let it b known
in the name of the purple and gold

we come in the name of the purple and gold
all of the odds r in r favor
no prediction 2 bold
we r the truth if the truth can b told
long reign the purple and gold

the eyes say ready 4 battle
no need 4 sword in hand
we r all amped up like a rock n roll band
ready 2 celebrate every score
ready 2 fight the elegant war
ready 2 hear the crowd roar

that's what we came 4
and so much more
in the name of the purple and gold

r spirits may b tired
r bodies may b worn
but since this day is r destiny
r history - that's y we must b
4ever strong as the wind that blows the Vikings' horn
in the name of the purple and gold

As a Lions fan I can only *DREAM* the God of music (which Prince has been established as due to his peerless nature in history) would write a kick-ass song for the Lions.

People don't recognize a traditional song of this nature done right. People are expecting a pop song? The taste in music some people have leaves me stunned- the next 50 artists and groups out there combined don't have as much talent as a discarded fingernail of Prince's.

Prince does the A+++ work that no one else in music does, setting records while receiving more awards and accolades than anyone else in history- receiving those awards from the corrupt music and radio industries he single-handedly started a fight for artists rights against.

At the same time, he does not care what the kiddies out there think about his music, because his music is for him and his loyal millions- he's already surpassed the highest point of legend. Long after your favorite band is a distant memory in 100+ years, there will still be new Prince music being released from his vault hitting the tops of the charts, his music still being studied by the greatest musical schools in the world, as it is currently.

Purple and Gold is perfectly written, a highly traditional song. As usual, he succeeds where critics look like the clueless fools they are- those critics will be dust, while Prince's music will still be playing for hundreds, even thousands of years.

You know your team is about to lose their next big showdown whenever someone releases a shabby and budget song right before the game. A few weeks ago the Chargers' Ladanian Tomlinson released a crap song/video and then immediately went on to get humiliated in his subsequent game. Now Prince carries on the tradition (or should I say omen) and makes sure the Vikings season will end pre-maturely. To Prince, and other would-be (doomsday) song writers I say: write the song AFTER your team has won the championship, instead of creating a distraction, or hype, that will only speed up your team's defeat.

I like it......for an alma mater. Would have been a fight song in 1952.

The song is good.

I'm guessing no employee has told Prince "no" a second time since 1984.
He's surrounded by "yes" people who like their jobs more than they hate this song.

I adore Prince's music but this is so bad. Sounds like a generic hymn.

I love Prince! But I seriously question whether or not this man sticks to his JEHOVA Witness beliefs & doesn't get high! LOL!

I grew up a Jehovah's Witness (like Prince) and strangely enough, this sounds like a song that one would sing in congregation. Very interesting.

This will be a great game.

The Rumble of the River. The Mississippi massacre. The source versus the mouth.

There's a big wave coming down river! Go Vikes!

Saints fans, I wish you well. You have a great team, a great city and I look forward to the contest.

I'm a professional musician/songwriter/producer and engineer. Prince was and still is a major influence on my music and style. No one can deny he is a musical genius. I will say that this song is very appropriate cause it sounds more like a Viking funereal which is exactly what's going to happen in New Orleans in the Super Dome on Sunday. WHO DAT? GEAUX SAINTS!!!

I don't use this acronym a lot... but it just seems appropriate.

WTF?

In true Prince spirit this song comes up way short.
