First Posted: 3/28/10 Updated: 5/25/11

Angelina Jolie Mom Video Tribute

Angelina Jolie and brother James made a video tribute to their late mother Marcheline Bertrand and posted it on YouTube for the third anniversary of her death. Marcheline died of ovarian cancer on January 27, 2007.

"One place Marcheline loved was Hawaii," reads a message in video. "She made many happy memories for her family there."

The video is a montage of home movies from a 1981 trip to Hawaii and features James and Angelina, then 6, on the beach and learning how to hula. It's set to Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."

I lost my mother this year, and I have had quite an emotional rollercoaster ride. Memories just keep coming back whenever and wherever...its like I have no control of it. I try to push it away if I'm at the doctors office or someplace like that where crying is seen as crazy, but its difficult.

I can't imagine how difficult it is for Angelina to have so many kids, and not have her mom for advice. That must really be difficult.

I can't stand this terribly phoney tatted twit, why would I have tolerance for her 'latest"?

Lovely woman, beautiful tribute. I feel sorry for those who are too cynical to feel empathy and sadness for their loss. Any why does it make grief any more real to retire from life for a year, as earlier stated by a previous reviewer. When my mother died, I continued my life. Most of us do when we lose a loved one.
That doesn't make the grief any less real or poignant.

This is a beautiful tribute and some of the comments here are shocking! They don't need any ploy for attention and this is just a heartfelt memory of a happy childhood they had because of her. Her mother is very beautiful and all natural.

for those who don't get the tribute in as much as we didn't know Ms. Bertrand personally, piggybacking on what Chelle says in an earlier post..

it's that universal feeling of loss we can relate to when we lose a much loved one...

i spoke with a customer the other day about her son's death in a motorcycle accident (killed by drunk driver at Christmas) for at least half hour, and my feeling of sadness and empathy was very much sincere...

i have a son and a daugther, and if i lost one of them i would most certainly be berefit..
i was pleased to be there to listen, as she wanted to talk about her son, and his life his accomplishments and what he meant to her and to the community at large.

HE WAS HERE, AND HE MATTERED. (that's what we want people to know)....

I like the idea of this video because it is very hard to see someone all of your life and then have them totally gone from your life. But it is also a tribute to the essence of her mother's kindess, beauty and love for her children. All that a mother gives to her children to help them grow and particularly a mom that loves you all of our life no matter our mistakes or your flaws...then it is gone.

I think it is naturally that you want to leave some evidence they were here in a larger sense...Everyone knows Angelina's father because of his work, but they had little idea of the one parent who had the most to do with her growing up...Bravo to Angelina and James for sharing the spirit of a loving mother...there is absolutely nothing better than being totally loved by your parent or parents...it sustains you!

Yes true Brad and Angelina playing the sympathy card and milking Marcheline's death three years later, yet none of them were bothered enough to give up movie premieres, or remove themselves from the media for six months like John Travolta did. Now they want to play the sympathy, "poor me" cards

I am devastated! My dog just passed away today. Losing someone you love is so sad. I lost my dad in April and now my dog. I'm so sad. I missed them a lot. I can understand her pain.

I am sorry you lost your good friend. My animal companions are very dear to me too. Losing a parent is always hard, no matter who you are.

I'm so, so, sorry. My heartfelt condolences on your loss. :( My heart breaks for you. I've recently lost one of my pups, along with my father and brother; the grief is at times incomprehensible. During such times my animal companions have never failed to comfort me with their unconditional love. I hope you have the love of family, friends and furry ones to help you through this difficult time and give you strength.

Just wooow...Sometimes I think all the haters are people who read and believe tabloid news and are losers but I never knew HuffPost had those kind of readers.

I think the tribute is beautiful and Angie definitely took her mom's look

I think it was a very sweet tribute to a mom from her kids. I made a similar video for my mom's birthday last year, and she liked it. She passed away this month, suddenly and quite young, and now I love to watch that video again, and my family and I are all searching for photos and videos of my mom, anything to keep a hold on the memories we have of her. Grieving can be a very private process, but sometimes it helps to open things up by making something for others to see, too. I can understand why she might want to pay this tribute to her mom, and I think it was very sweet.

Wow, 3 years after her death, Angelina releases a private memorial video and BY CHANCE there's loud rumbles of a Brad/Angelina break-up.

Gosh lukbeward, concidences...also seem to be in the mix for you...imagine you write stupid things on huffpost and you really are a neanderthal...who woulda thought? Everything would come together in such a neat package...

Just so you can grow from this experience...these folks have 6 kids...he is not about to leave, but if she or he decided to go...its ok..that's why they haven't married. But none of U seem to want to understand the relationships...which is fine..it takes folks with a semblance of brain power and ethics to get this relationship and that doesn't seem to be for forte...snark seems to have replaced any thoughtful reflections for you..bravo angelina...these twits are still trying .....and failing
