PETA Compares Meat Eaters To Terrorists, Sociopaths

The animal rights group PETA is certainly known for its shocking ads, aggressive tactics and bountiful photos of naked ladies touting vegetarianism, pet adoption and animal birth control, but one of the latest posts on its blog still manages to push the envelope.

Blogger Logan Scherer writes a post about howGhulam Rasool Khan, who was arrested in India with suspected links to al Qaeda and the Taliban, insists on eating large quantities of meat rather than the vegetarian food served in prison. Scherer makes a highly dubious equation comparing eating meat with violence against humans.

Behold: a visit from Captain Obvious. As if the world needed another example of the proven link between violence against animals and violence against humans, Ghulam Rasool Khan--a suspected al-Qaida member jailed in India--refuses to eat the vegetarian food served to him, instead demanding "two kg of mutton and one kg of chicken daily."

Khan has threatened to go on a hunger strike if he doesn't get his carcasses. But if PETA India's recent request that all jails serve only vegetarian meals is honored, then the bloodthirsty terrorist will be starving himself indefinitely.

The "proven link" Scherer is referring to is a PETA post about how serial killers often torture animals before "graduating" to humans.

Is PETA suggesting that simply eating meat is the same sociopathic behavior as torturing small animals? Is there really a seamless link between wanting to eat meat and being actively engaged in terrorism? Ironically, PETA itself was recently classified as a terrorist threat by the USDA. Let us know what you think.

Quick Poll

What do you think of PETA's blog post?

They've really jumped the shark this time.

Their hearts are in the right place, but this goes to far.

PETA does important work, don't hate!

Peta also says a boy is no different than a dog. Extreme emotionalism is what drives PETA to consider a human being equal to a rat. That is insane.

Their founder compared the slaughter of Jews in the Holocaust to "Six billion broiler chickens being slaughtered every year."

They're hypocritical bullies who crave attention.

Guys the best way to go is ethical omnivorism. Eating a diet based on fruits and vegetables, with meat occasionally, but making sure that the meat you eat comes from humanely treated animals and environmentally sound companies/local farmers.

Putting butter on a steak is like putting ketchup on a hot-dog.

That picture of roasted meat made me hungry.

I'm going to eat some meat now, and its Peta's fault!

Why is this idea of not killing animals being laughed at? The vote showed most readers didn't agree with PETA. But why? They are completely right. Killing an animal is exactly the same as killing a human. Duh.

Every animal on this planet feels emotion, pain, and love. The idea that we can inhumanely kill animals on the planet is insane and people actually put down PETA for standing up to the madness. People are not carnivores and hardly omnivores. Our closest primate relatives are vegetarian only rarely eating meat.

If you were to actually turn everyone into a vegetarian then there probably would be less human murder. The farther the concept of vegetarianism goes the farther the idea of not killing your neighor travels. It's the same thing. If you can jump that moral leap to not eating meat you probably won't make that decision to murder a human.

We ARE omnivores. Just check your teeth.

We have front teeth for biting meat, esp. the canines for ripping into meat.

We have molars for grinding nuts and seeds.

We evolved this way...from eating meat and nuts and berries and seeds.

Next yer gonna try and tell me that fish are really "sea kittens."

"If you can jump that moral leap to not eating meat you probably won't make that decision to murder a human."

Gee, vegetarianism didn't have quite that effect on Hitler.

Great answer. But remember, the founder of PETA equates the slaughter of Jews to the tragic death of six billion broiler chickens every year.

And, PETA kills most of the animals it "rescues."

"Terraists and sociopaths"?
Like the people sending death threats to figure skater Johhny Weir for incorporating fur in his costumes after PETA made it an issue?

Let's see people claim H.i.t.le.r was a vegan, Che Rivera too. Both murderous psychopaths. Just two that come to mind.

I dislike PETA but not for animal rights or nutritional differences, etc. but because they are like religious fundamentalists-they will never be happy with any accomplishment. Just as religious fundamentalists of all stripes want to intrude into every facet of life i.e. food, clothing, education, etc. PETA has made it known that they would want all people to be vegans , not just lacto-ova vegetarians , that leather shoes and clothing be outlawed, etc.
They live in some bizarro world where their vision reigns supreme, yet for some reason the killing of dogs for profit was acceptable. When they were caught, they said in defense that the 10,000 dogs killed over the years was done because no one would love them the way they deserved to be loved.
Total whackos

Oh ! they also defend the poisoning of turkeys in stores at Christmas.

I appreciate many of the reasons people become vegetarian but humans have incisors because we have evolved as carnivores. It is part of who we are as a species and not some aberration.

Actually, we evolved as omnivorous scavengers, but I get your point.

If PETA people really believe that animals are just as important as humans...

PROVE it.

Go to you local butcher and volunteer.

You can save several animals if you donate YOUR meat.

You are no more important than animals right?

I bet the average PETA member can produce enough meat to save a dozen chickens or a handful of pigs. A few vegans together can save one cow.

Put your meat where you mouth is...

So, by your reasoning, shouldn't you offer yourself to be executed instead of some political prisoner on death row in China. Or do you have higher human value than people in China?

The problem your reasoning, of course, is that the selfsacrifice wouldn't do any good here. They'd just kill a new political prisoner the day after. Just like the meat industry will confine, torture and kill billions each year. What we can do is spend our time, energy and money on bringing that system down, just like we (I hope you agree) should work for human rights in China.
03:09 PM on 01/28/2010
So because they can serve a greater purpose, in the scenario I layed out, human life IS more important than animal life?

Nice... try blending onions and chicken with yogurt in a food processor and cook it up with some chicken, a pinch of garam masala, and cardamom. Awesome!

PETA people taste like chicken!

Sorry - couldn't resist. I am a liberal, and I think PETA folks are no better than tea partiers from the right. Rational thinking left a looong time ago.
