ManCrunch SuperBowl Ad REJECTED: Gay Dating Site Ad Denied By CBS (VIDEO)

First Posted: 3/30/10 Updated: 5/25/11

Mancrunch Superbowl Ad

Update: CBS has rejected an ad from gay dating site ManCrunch, telling the site that the ad "is not within the Network's Broadcast Standards for Super Bowl Sunday.", James Hibberd reports at The Live Feed

CBS released the following statement:

"After reviewing the ad - which is entirely commercial in nature - our Standards and Practices department decided not to accept this particular spot. As always, we are open to working with the client on alternative submissions."

Hibberd reports that CBS believed ManCrunch was trying to generate free publicity by submitting an ad that was likely to be rejected.

"We're 100% serious," ManCrunch spokesperson Elissa Buchter said. "We have the money to pay for it. If the ad showed a man and woman kissing it would have been accepted. You see ads for erectile dysfunction morning, noon and night. It's discriminatory that they wont show this....They should call our bluff. If the ad doesn't air on the Super Bowl, it will air on another network. It's not like it plays like Adam Lambert [kissing another man on the AMAs]."

Original Post: CBS is considering airing an ad for gay dating site ManCrunch, Fox News reports.

On the heels of the network's decision that advocacy ads are acceptable, ManCrunch says CBS has not rejected its ad — which includes two male football fans making out.

A rep for ManCrunch told Fox News that CBS said "the spot hadn't been officially approved yet" as of last week, but "all the Super Bowl spots were sold out."

"ManCrunch requested the spot get reviewed anyway just in case another advertiser drops out and a spot becomes available, as often happens, and CBS agreed," the rep said.

A CBS rep told Fox News that "the ad is still under review, the process takes a little while....We still have a lot of ads we have yet to review."

Obviously there are some people who are much more articulate than i if you have been reading the comments posted below! The reason i can tell is i am actually learning things by reading the views posted and some of the replies. What I'm trying to say is my point of view is being altered by some of the arguments posted about the MOTIVATION of the company behind the ad. I mean what is being posted really makes you think-WHY? instead of just taking a side.I think i got my point across?

I don't pay a cable bill to watch that crap. I'm not anti-gay. It's just that that commercial sucks.

Knickers in a twist anyone? If you watch it, it is really pretty funny and more of a send up than a real ad....when will we grow up?

I thought all SuperBowl ads were gay...

This was a HOAX, a publicity a stunt by a corporation. This is gorilla advertising at its best. They made a cheap youtube video and claimed they wanted it aired nationally.

There is no gay rights issue here. They just wanted everyone to say, “Oh look homophobia” and make a loud noise over it, thus giving them free publicity. If you notice, all the quotes that ManCrunch used in regards to CBS did NOT have a name attached. Only ‘A CBS source’.

What CBS *did* say in regards to ManCrunch was: “... our Sales Department has had difficulty verifying your organizations credit status."

Even GayDailyHot stepped forward and wrote in part, Mancrunch isn’t a LGBT-owned business and it isn’t a gay dating site at all.. It’s just the gay niche site made by a clueless straight company for publicity."

Besides, did you honestly think this small ‘dating’ site had over 3 million dollars to spend? No.

And for the record, PETA’s ad – along with THOUSANDs of others – was rejected as well. Does that mean CBS is discriminative against animals?

Absolutely biased! CBS is now in the pockets of the far right-winged. They wouldn't air any ad that would piss off their new best friends (can you say, "big pay day?")

I don't really think the ad is all that funny (as it's obviously meant to be based on the ferocity of the making out and the music in the background). I also don't think it does a good job showcasing a GLBT relationship beyond the physical which is important for people to understand. Lastly, the 3rd guy in the commercial displays the typical response we should be trying to dispel: "Oh man, gay people, they are SO weird, this situation is REALLY awkward, what do I do?!"

I'm actually kind of glad this isn't being shown, for all our sakes :(

But censorship IS bad...

I have yet to be in a hospital birthing center and hear any parent say" I hope my son is gay" please God , let him be Gay. NOT , Gay is not normal. Gay people are not bad people just differnet sexually and I have never seen any parent happy , real happy when the kid says he is gay. : ( they have a choice. Parents love them, but are never reallly happy with their kids sexual preferance. God does love Gay people , He does not love the sexual choice. Gay people are loved all over the world , except most of Asia where they are killed , may that is the middle east. Pray for gays to change their sexual lifestlye.

Blondie: Stop talking on behalf of God: It annoys her.

I think the Parents of Gay children may be "upset" as you call it because they don't want their child to face a future of discrimination and intolerance from people like you.

Exactly. The main issue the GLBT community faces is that being GLBT is viewed as a deficiency or something that aught to be separated from the mainstream. The concern on the part of the parent is that society will not treat their beautiful child fairly (or perhaps kill them, just for who they are).

Think logically about the last time you said to yourself, "My life is REALLY good right now, I wish there was something about me that would make my life harder. Oh, I know, how about I be gay?!"

(If you didn't detect the sarcasm, it doesn't work like that)

Why would you choose to be gay? Why go through being stigmatized and thought of as an abomination? I love my gay Brother who I grew up with and am very close to and without a doubt know that he didn't "choose this." I'm so tired of people using religion to discriminate against people and other cultures, I've even had the bible quoted at me because I'm a vegetarian, what a joke.
I assure you my parents completely accepted my Brother and went on to become heavily involved with P-FLAG, in hopes of educating people, they have made a difference, I'm proud of them also.

"ManCrunch" ?

This is the organization that the gay community wants to hold out front as your poster child for this fight?

"ManCrunch"? Really?

No wonder you are the laughing stock of the country over this paticular issue.

Translation: Running this ad will somehow impact our bottom line in a negative way. Really, you think network TV has failed to notice that actual gay people exist in the world? Really? With shows like Queer eye for the straight guy enjoyed by huge audiences? Wasn't Ellen's "controversial" kiss with another woman YEARS ago?

Look, Gay America. I'm a Pagan. I know it will be a cold day in heck when a cheery sitcom family is celebrating Solstice together and they are presented as normal and all-American. I hope that day will come. But I know enough to be GRATEFUL that I already live in such a free, open society as I do. People with "alternative lifestyles", whether religious, sexual, or whatever, have it pretty darn good in this country. There are parts of the world where the death penalty is a possible outcome for failing to practice the right religion or sexual preference.

Corporate America failing to embrace your lifestyle choices (or mine, as a Pagan) 24/7 is not bigotry or discrimination. Get over it.

sorry Juniper..I don't buy your arguement. Perception is relative and since you are not "gay" your perception is not that of a gay person. I would rather hear how how a gay person feels thanks.

Deciding that "how it makes you feel" is the way to determine if discrimination has occurred is EXACTLY what is wrong with this country.

But there is no reason not to work to make things better in the US. But this Ad, like all ads by for profit companies is just about making money.
06:33 PM on 02/01/2010
Let's see. One ad seeks to reach the whole population ... about saving the lives of the not yet born.
The other ad seeks to reach gays, about 2-3% of the population. What does this have to do about religion? Nothing. What does this have to do about a company trying to get free attention and publicity? Everything. Sorry, but this isn't one of those issues that will break America's heart.

CBS said it had rejected an ad for a gay dating site for the 2010 Super Bowl, but that it would still air three hours of men in tight pants slapping each other on the ass...............
