2011 Obama Budget Plans For Third National Cemetery In Colorado

President Barack Obama's 2011 budget plan calls for the creation of a new national cemetery in Southern Colorado, signaling a breakthrough in the long campaign to have a new federal cemetery in the Pikes Peak region to serve area veterans.

The White House budget plan is only that -- an outline of spending goals that Congress may or may not support. But the proposed budget for the Veterans Administration does reflect a major change in national cemetery policy and calls for two new cemeteries in Colorado-- the southern cemetery that has been sought by veterans groups for years, and also a new northern cemetery closer to Denver once Fort Logan National Cemetery is full.
