White Goat Converts Office Paper Into Toilet Paper (VIDEO)

First Posted: 04/03/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 04:20 PM ET

Meet White Goat, a machine from the Oriental, Co. Ltd. that will convert office paper into toilet paper.

And we thought USB bra heaters, taser MP3 players, and foot tanners were strange.

How does it work? Just feed used office paper into one end of the machine, and it'll come out as rolls of toilet paper on the other side.

According to a report by DigInfo, it takes 30 minutes and 40 sheets of A4 office paper to create one roll of toilet paper, and White Goat claims to be able to save 60 cedar trees annually.

The $100,000 machine is set to go on sale sometime this spring. But as DVICE notes, it may not pay for itself: 'At an average cost per roll of about 60 cents, our calculations show you'd have to crank out 200,000 rolls of TP before it pays for itself.'

Eco-friendly recycling solution or just plain bizarre? See White Goat in action in the video below then tell us what you think!

I'd want to know about how it sanitizes the paper

Just a thought but in considering the cost you must also consider not just the savings in terms of toilet paper. but the savings in terms of paper shreadders and/or shreadding services for the office.

Many offices, including the one where I worked, either hire a service to turn the out-fall of our printers into powder (Very expensive) or buy a truck load of Shreadders (Not all that cheap either)

plus there is teh psychological value of using the old office documents that way :Very Wide Grin:

(Thought I'd rather run the bosses pay check through that machine.. If that is.. I still had a boss)

The technology is wonderful, and when these machines are turned out in reasonable numbers, the price comes down exponentially.
It has real promise

'At an average cost per roll of about 60 cents, our calculations show you'd have to crank out 200,000 rolls of TP before it pays for itself.'

Let me be a geek here but that's BS.

You need to take in account that used paper has value already and set that of against the 60 ct a roll. The machine uses electricity for 30 minutes per roll.... got to add that to the calculation too. Same goes for the water it seems to use.... the space it stands in and then the person who has to operate it.... want to talk maintenance?

This will never be cost effective! not even close!

I want one! I love the idea of recycling the materials right there instead of sending them to the recycling center where they are bundled and shipped somewhere else and used to make new products. This would be a great tool to teach school children about recycling. Does it make the cardboard roll, too?

Fantastic idea! Just not yet cost effective with a $100k price tag.

The machine will cost about $100,000. White Goat 1.0 is cool, but I'll wait for 5.0.

it is an awesome first start and a nice out of the box thinking...

Hopefully, with the coming years, they will figure out how to crank of the speed; producing one roll in 30 minutes is too small.

can someone please take on the challenge of making it a household item

Feed pages of newspaper into the machine and get a roll of TP? I am all for it.

It needs to be smaller, with a water reservoir and maybe even a lease agreement.
