New Facebook Redesign 2010: PICTURES Of The New Layout

First Posted: 04/07/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 04:25 PM ET

A new Facebook redesign is being rolled out to the site's 400 million users.

According to Inside Facebook, 80 million users got the new home page layout yesterday, February 4, and more will be seeing the redesign shortly.

So what does the new Facebook layout look like?

The new Facebook layout includes a new home page design, and an applications and games dashboard.

A Facebook press release explained:

New Home Page Design
A simplified home page to provide easier access to what you're looking for on Facebook. You can now quickly navigate to commonly-used areas of the site from the top and left hand menus. From the Top Menu, you can now easily find new messages, requests, and notifications using the icons in the top, left hand corner. The left hand menu is now where you can find all of your applications, previously located in the bottom dock. The links on the left will take you to your application dashboards. You can also find your Messages and Facebook Chat from the left hand menu.

Applications and Games Dashboards
The Applications Dashboard lets you view the latest applications you and your friends interacted with, as well as discover new applications based on what your friends are using. The Games Dashboard serves as a dedicated space for games on Facebook where you can interact with games you've recently played and discover new games based on what your friends are playing. On both the Applications and Games Dashboards, you can receive personalized updates to remind you of impending actions, sent directly from the applications.

The Facebook redesign was rolled out on Facebook's sixth anniversary. Read a blog post by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on 'Six Years Of Making Connections.'

The real question is, does the update break all of those facebook iPhone apps?

it doesn't but I think they missed a lot of optimization in the redesign - http://silverlaketosoho.com/blog/tech/5-things-they-missed-in-the-facebook-redesign/

Yea, I really could care less about who friends me or what the majority of the attention seeking people on FB are doing daily.

Whats to like, or dislike? My whole daily life does NOT revolve around facebook. I only use facebook
to keep up with my children (who live in other states), other than them..i could care less who "freinds" me and when..ho hum..

Couldn't care less about Farcebook's new look. I moved to South Korea a year ago and soon discovered that, because Farcebook's verification system works only with non-Korean cellphones, I (like all Koreans) am nothing but a second class citizen to Farcebook and cannot be verified. That's not acceptable for a site that claims to be so communicative, leading edge, and universal. Farcebook is nothing but a waste of time.

I was under the impression a lot of stuff couldn't be used in SK? You need an SK social security number and it has to be verified for almost everything! I remember trying to play a computer game from SK and without a social security number I couldn't even access the free online game.

I'm actually liking the new design. The games and application dashboards look promising too. I have a facebook connect gaming site at http://freegamesgallery.com that I maintain as a hobby and I'm hoping the new dashboards will help it grow. The last updates to FB a year or so ago made it hard for apps to spread as virally as they used to, and I'm hoping these new dashboards will provide more virality while cutting down spam at the same time. In theory they should since a user has to look at the dashboard, its more of a pull process (user has to go look and FB gives suggestions of what your friends are doing) rather than a push process where apps would push notifications to all the users.

New & improved strikes again. I just hate it when somebody moves my water dish. It doesn't look like either Mac I've had (but besides Text Edit & Preview, I really don't use my apps) I guess it could be worse. It could be like Windows; with the non stop pop ups and prompts.
FB is good for rescue stuff & when you get too much email. Or it was.

You do realize, of course, that the page views the same regardless of the operat...

Nevermind. You don't, and it's not worth wasting my time.

Not yet, but thanks for the warning so I won't have a fuss fit when I go there and it is once again all different.

The redesign is dreadful. I don't want to know everything about my friends. The status update only page / option was fine: beyond that, the newsfeed Facebook homepage is overwhelming. Who has the time for this? Except application designers locked up in Palo Alto in a plastic white cube?

I totally agree...i don't want to see who my friends became friends with or what games they are playing. I only want to see status updates and photos in my news feed.
08:11 PM on 02/08/2010
Hi, I totally agree also, its horrible...Can you tell me where the status update tab is on the new FB layout?? I only have a news tab with the two options the most recent and top news.. I really hope that thats not the only way to get the status updates when they are all mixed with the news feeds.
