Paterson Sex Scandal In The Works? Media Abuzz About Possible 'Bombshell' Story

Huffington Post   First Posted: 4/7/10 Updated: 5/25/11

Paterson

Rumors are flying that the New York Times is set to publish a bombshell scandal regarding New York Governor David Paterson.

Members of the media are abuzz about the alleged story on blogs and twitter, portending that it could be the final nail in Paterson's campaign coffin.

But just what is said scandal?

Nobody seems to know.

The Daily News' Elizabeth Benjamin says it's "far worse than his acknowledged extramarital affair with a former state employee."

New York Magazine, who just ran a lengthy profile on the governor, couldn't get a peep out of the Times, but writes that they hear the paper is "coming up with something big about the Paterson administration."

Many believe the scandal is linked to a story that appeared in the New York Post this past weekend that further detailed Paterson's recent decision to ban state troopers from the Governor's Mansion.

According to the Post, a trooper accidentally caught the governor in a somewhat-compromising position:

The trooper opened the door and the first thing he saw was the governor and a woman inside and the two of them snuggling together, embracing. There was nothing more than that, snuggling, and they had their clothes on.

Gawker, for their part, claims that it all may be related to a rumor that Paterson and his wife Michelle are swingers.

Whatever the scandal is, this week just keeps getting better and better for Andrew Cuomo.

If this story had any legs at all, the actual story would have run already. Shame on HuffPo for trafficking in unsubstantiated, libelous rumor by hiding behind weasel words -- "members of the media," "abuzz," "rumor." A story about a story that MIGHT run in the NYT?

Put up or shut up. This is an example of the worst kind of slimy, yellow journalism I've seen in quite a while.

And I'm no fan of Paterson.

Wow! another paper by the media that is scrambling up some gossip news on someone personal life. I just dont understand what do a man who has an affair on thier wife while they are in a political position has to do with the functions of their job and how it can affect what their work getting done for the people. I can't see how an affair can affect their personality and their strengths and accomplishments for te city.

This country was far better off when the media focused on whether politicians were screwing the public, not what they choose to do with other consenting adults in their private lives.

This is what happens when politicians speak the truth. It has taken a blind man in NY to see that the states finances are in a shambles.
I can't wait for the Eliot Spitzer photos to come out when he tries to run for Senate in NY . The kink is too much for the average up-stater to handle.

If there is a story then the Times should come out with it.
One wonders if this is why he refused to sign an ethics bill. ;)
Maybe it's time the Governor take care of governing his personal life and leave governing a state to someone else. This is no time for stubbornness nor whining on his part. His child is in desperate need of parenting and if the above referenced story has any truth to it then his marriage is in need of help. Whatever state his personal life is in it is clearly interfering with the State of New York. We deserve better. His marriage deserves better. His child deserves better.

Um, is there any evidence?
The story here seems to say -- and I often misread stuff -- that an anonymous someone alleges a rumor that might have some basis in an arbitrary interpretation of unremarkable facts.
What can not be said in this same manner about me?
I don't care much about sex experienced by people who are not me. Self centered? You bet.
But what about death by malicious rumor?
Whatever public reputation I may have would be considered utterly insignificant by just about every person who draws breath. Even so, it would hurt my feelings and possibly hurt members of my family if some jerk posted anonymous, malicious allegations about me.
Blow it up to state or national levels and you can do stupendous damage to people as well as our fragile representative democracy. All you have to do is pay people to type vicious, scandalous allegations online. I'm broke but even I could afford that.
Until and unless there is credible evidence, it's baloney. Only when I am persuaded that evidence is credible and the issue is of some importance will I decide if I care.
When selling a story is all that matters, there's no limit to the number of people you can hurt by spreading anonymous slanders.

Oh, my Gawd! This is SNUGGLEGATE! It should have a far reaching impact inside the public offices, limousines, and public corridors of New York State.

If you have your clothes on, and you embrace a member of the opposite sex with a hug or kiss, you have SNUGGLED. Therefore, you are UNFIT FOR OFFICE! CALL OUT THE MEDIA! They must report on the state of the clothing, each arm entanglement, each little word of endearment, or - gasp! - each kiss.

Maybe the reverse carpetbagger Harold Ford, Jr. can comment on this practice? He could compare snuggling in the public offices of Tennessee to the practice in New York. And, surely Gov. Mark Sanford of S.C. should be able to tell us if snuggling while a governor of a state is proper or not.

Maybe we need a HANDBOOK OF SNUGGLING which will give all politicians guidelines as to exactly how much you can snuggle with your secretary, research assistant, personal attorney, or just a friend who dropped by while you are in your public office working for the people -- with your clothes on.

I would hope you would give us southerners an exclusion as to the New York State snuggling rule as down here we snuggle, hug, and kiss adults, kids, and even the dogs and cats at the drop of a pin. At least we Democarts do - the Rethugs are too anal and sexually frustrated to engage in effective snuggling.

In old days prostitutes voluntarily worked for the safety and security of the nations at the peril of death. As the days passed and the world leaders lectured about social values, and civilizations, legislate law for women to expose beauty so that hyenas waiting can catch easily their prey, so what we see a new type of prostitution emerging in our society by these people indulging in and helping in laying the foundation of prostitution by mothers sisters and wives to enjoy in dark where none even spares mothers, sister and others wives, said the reputed Social Workers.

Eminent Social Workers called these Elites as male prostitutes as well Prostitution helpers. These are the same people who give lectures on human social values, incest as bad, and civilization.

So how to blame the New York Governor for what he had or had not done. If he had done what is rumored, then the public is to be blamed, who voted him to power. These new prostitutes are eating away the marrow of the American social values and one day they will eat up American social values along with the bones also. As already the country is heavily populated by bastards.

Intelligentsia opined why not legislate to have a sex free country and populate the entire country with illegitimate children? If not then legislate such a law that anyone found involved will have his tool surgically operated upon and it will thrown in the dustbin..

i have no idea what the heck you were talking about

....but i will volunteer for one of those jobs as "Elite Prostitution helper".

sounds like a sweet gig,

that is unless they give the job to "client number 9" first.
