The Green Police (VIDEO): Hilarious Environmental PSAs Tease Audi's Super Bowl Commercial

First Posted: 4/7/10 Updated: 5/25/11

These guys aren't messing around. The Green Police are hitting the streets Super Bowl Sunday, and they're coming after you for napkin, styrofoam and power strip violations.

The series of humorous mock public service announcements, sponsored by Audi, are teasers for Audi's commercial on game day, which will promote its diesel technology. They even got Cheap Trick to re-record "Dream Police" as "Green Police" for the PSAs.

WATCH the Green Police take on power strips, or as they would call them, "Mother Nature Haters":

Why would anyone have a problem protecting the earth? Don't you think that the middle aged, white men wasting energy and contributing to climate change in the commercial should be held accountable? Unfortunately, to get real reform and make a difference capitalism is not the economic system to do it. It has to be done via central planning. Any other attempt at regulation will just prop up big business and water down any meaningful reform.

Times are changing, and it is clear by this adds impact that people really are interested in being green. After all, I would much rather have an add like this over one like the Bud light house add that just makes fun of environmentalism. If you want to see this add and a little commentary on the two check out this article by The Greener Truth.

No doubt, especially since the fermentation process that alcoholic beverages undergo to change simple sugars to alcohol release a large amount of CO2! Polluters and carbon emitters need to be held accountable like this commercial shows!

At first I thought this Audi commercial was one of Granny Palin"s anti-scary -big -gov is goming to get you tea bagger ads. Thankfully, they were just tryng to sell fuel efficient cars, not advocating the roll back of a woman's right to choose like the Tebows. Focus on your own family!

It was a bold ad that had undertones of sarcasm so, it's was funny...
08:18 PM on 02/06/2010
i love these ads

points out the ridiculousness of the green movement

but in a really smart, subtle way

kudos!

If you think that wasting billions to preserve our interests in the middle east is reasonable, and you and your kids think its worth it to die in Iraq and Afghanistan to preserve your right to waste energy, then yes, the green movement is ridiculous.
To sane people, this is a novel way to raise awareness of ways that we waste and pollute.
01:58 AM on 02/08/2010
of course not

i think our middle east policy, and our dependence on foreign energy sources is a bad thing, and leads to all sorts of trouble, and profiteering by the less than scupulous elements of both political parties and the energy companies that own them

i would support using less energy
drilling in our own country, and off our own shores
as well as using advanced technology to find effective alternative energy sources (not silly ones like corn ethanol)

whether the most effective and best for the environment fuels are fossil fuels, wind, solar, clean coal, nuclear, or extreme conservation, (or most likely a combination of all of them)

i say we follow the path to a healthy, and intelligent energy policy

and while we're at it, lets stop pretending like this global warming thing is a problem

sure, there is some global warming, but it seems to be more of a natural cycle,
not the result of some theory uncovered by the eminent al gore, and his ilk.

wasting trillions in cap and trade, and related nonsense, just makes the problem worse,
lets all work together to find real solutions

ones that we can all agree will lead us away from our dependence on foreign and mideast sources especially

A power strip? It is a passive device (unless hit has a indicator LED on the switch, but get that sure isn't consuming a thousand pounds of CO2). Of course if you got a bunch of power consuming devices attached to it that is a different story.
02:42 PM on 02/06/2010
Well, that was underwhelming...
02:11 PM on 02/06/2010
If you live in an older building you don't have enough outlets; power strips are essential and turning them off means you must restart your computer every time. Who will do that consistently?

Why not invent a power strip that uses far less energy? I think it's called innovation and it leads to inventions to make our lives better (hopefully). Could even generate some jobs.

Just turn it off before you leave or go to bed, and turn it on when you need to use it. It's not that big of a deal.

You are 100% wrong, both of you. It's not very funny, but it is funny in a way.

If i unplug my power strip my TV goes off, duh, not a bad idea....

It's an ad campaign by a company. Audi. It may serve the public, but it is not a non-profit.

The Green Police are hilarious. And, the Cheap Trick remake adds another layer to the dry humour. You have to see the spot to really understand in context: www.facebook.com/audi
