All Things Digital:

Remember the whole Conan O'Brien/Jay Leno imbroglio from last month? Perhaps NBC wishes you didn't. The GE (GE) unit has removed every episode of the show's 7-month run from its NBC.com site, as well as Hulu, the site NBC owns along with News Corp.'s Fox (NWS) and Disney's ABC (DIS).

Conan isn't funny. Neither is Leno. Carson was a genius and the show went downhill when he retired.

None of the late night hosts are remotely funny.

When you come back on the air, Conan, I hope you will return to your roots. Back when you didn't have the budget to do big-time skits, but like when you did goofy stuff with cheap props.

I'm not surprised that they removed the site and his content, because it was going to happen anyway... I'm just more surprised that NBC has the cajones to take down the site and act as if Conan never hosted the show, while they still show reruns of him at 11:30.

Coincidence: NBC has disappeared from my viewing schedule, including several shows I used to watch and like.

Congress needs to stop the merger. Comcast could potentially revitalize NBC, and this would be another example of an industry being rescued without having to worry about consequences.

NBC has done a lot since the hearrings with Congress......
They sat with Brian Roberts on Thursday and said false statements all afternoon.

NBC is the only network that has charged for OnDemand programs since 2001........
Since the hearrings on Thursday....They are now FREE.

They should never be allowed to merge with Comcast and things don't look good for them.

They erased The Late Show online....
Well maybe that;s a sign of the ratings Jay will have upon return...
The ratings will be erased.....!

Um, I don't get why people are surprised by this. His show is over. Why keep the Web site up?

And who wrote that awful headline? NBC "disappears" the Tonight Show? Oy.

And if his ratings sucked so much, as they did, obviously there was little web traffic. I think he acted like a big crybaby and I'm glad the whole mess is done with. Way too much media coverage for a silly late night talk show like it has some significant importance in our lives.

Haven't you ever been fired or laid off from a company? The day after, you never existed. Your desk is empty, your former co workers want nothing to do with you. Your contacts and phone numbers are disconnected. The standard answer to a telephone inquire is "who"?
Conan no longer works for NBC. Why would they handle him any differant than the guy who sweeps the floor? It's a giant company. I'm just surprised they didn't send him a termination package through the mail or call him into HR like they do anyone else.

Simple: M-O-N-E-Y NBC is doing this to avid paying residuals on webstreaming to Conan and his writers, per the WGA contract of 2008. they've discounted "collectibles" to the point of $0 in royalties to JJ Sedelmaier for "Pale Force" and his other animations from the show.

Like they can afford this with a $200mil hole in their spread+sheet from the Olympics?

I completely agree with you. Conan has taken this way too personally - it's business and that's all. His ratings sucked and without the ratings, web traffic suffers as well. If my "ratings" were as low as his, my boss would dump my a$$ as well.

"His ratings sucked and without the ratings, web traffic suffers as well."

You clearly have NO IDEA what you are talking about. Ratings have NOTHING to do with web traffic. There are over 300 million people in the USA and ratings are based on the 25,000 homes Neilsen's tracks. What does this have to do with the internet??? Um nothing.

Actually Conan was #1 in the ratings that bring in the ad money.....

#1 in the 18-49 year old stats all of the last quarter of 2009.....
#1 in all of January....

And they don't count the web viewings which cost NBC cash since they no longer own the rights.
They do want Conan to 'disappear'...
The 10PM Leno Show was even brought up in Senate hearrings Thursday!
Talk about a disaster....
Let's talk about Jay.

You ought to check out The Office on NBC. Some good laughs there.
01:59 AM on 02/07/2010
What's sillier is that Conan reruns are still playing on NBC. What happened to Leno? If NBC is going through all this trouble, it would appear they are losing money not putting Leno on ASAP. I'm confused at this business decision.
10:41 AM on 02/07/2010
There's no point in putting Leno back on before the Olympics.

Wish all you want but Leno is not going away. While not a fan of either, Leno has a huge fan base and that's why even though his ratings sucked on prime time, Conan's sucked even more on late night. This was all about business - NBC is in the business to make money for it's shareholders and both shows were a flop. They should have left it alone but five years ago Conan was promised a shot at The Tonight Show in his contract, he got it, and he totally annihilated his opportunity.

Ha! That made no sense.

"...Leno has a huge fan base..."

You mean all those Nielson households (thousands!) that happen to turn his show on? Seinfeld? His other famous neighbors? He has absolutely no grassroots support from fans, even after weeks of embarrassment that should have forced them out of the woodwork to defend him.

Conan was indeed given a (half-assed) shot at The Tonight Show, and only he and his team know exactly what was happening behind the scenes that ended in their refusal to move The Tonight Show. They obviously had their reasons, though, and as a result an Army of Coco (what?) awaits his return to a network that gives him a bit more freedom and respect. It was for the best, I can't wait.
