The Denver Post:

Until a few months ago, J.B. Woods was your standard-issue insurance agent. Auto, home, life. Would you like flood coverage with that?

Then, in the middle of 2009, his phone rang: "I need insurance for my medical-marijuana dispensary," the caller said. And since that moment, few of the policies Woods has set up for clients have been standard-issue.

Small-scale capitalism is wonderful! Of course, the big players will eventually get involved, as more and more states realize the rationality and profitability of the legalization of this harmless "weed", but for now it's a miniature golden age (provided you live in the right jurisdiction--I fear Texas will be trailing the last to legalize it).

Texas had their chance to elect Kinky Friedman for Governor. He promised to make Willie Nelson head of the DEA in Texas.

Texas Congressman Ron Paul introduced the Industrial Hemp Farming act. A bill that the Congress has failed to make law in time for spring planting.

Amazing how pot is the big growth business in the US during the recession. You would think that governments would be all for legalizing and drawing money that is mainly in the black market, that can't be taxed, up to regular market where marijuana can be regulated, taxed, and bring in jobs.

Dont overplay the "awesome" tax revenue.. please. I prefer Republican principles on this one. Smaller Gov., less regulation, smaller taxes, big gov. leaving me alone {as much as possible} and stay the {expletive deleted} out of my garden. {ask the Republicans where they stand on their own principles...} Tax retail MJ if they must, but with competition in a legal market prices should be under One Hundred perOZ. That is with nearly 100% tax. Yes it would raise some Tax revenue.. but not the awesome level of "toking our way out of a recession" revenue that some activists are promising.

In the meantime, {as of 10 years ago actually} activists should be growing a couple of Kenaf plants right where people can see it. Hibiscus canabinus, quite the conversation piece. And according to Senator Udall... the Kenaf plant looks nothing whatsoever like Industrial Hemp.

The reason many MJ & MMJ folks talk about smoking our way out of the rescission is the 35 Billion we waste on Marijuana law enforcement each year.

With a basic already in place sales tax, we get another 35 Billion.

The Prohibition of Marijuana is causing more problems than just wasteful spending.

The last line in the article sums up the whole issue. Money. Medical Marijuana is bringing in truck loads of money to every county in the state. 60,000 Card holders and growing.

Counties in CO can either wise up, make smart regulations and enjoy the ride, or continue to fight reality with prohibitionist insanity and we get to watch as they go broke.

there is more $$$ in businesses than just marijuana being sold and consumed, and I'm not talking about the prison industry.
