Google Buzz SLAMMED By Yahoo, Microsoft

Google has just taken the wraps off of its new social feature called 'Google Buzz' and already, Microsoft and Yahoo have slammed the new development in official statements.

TechCrunch notes that within an hour of Google Buzz's unveiling, Yahoo PR had already released a statement highlighting how Yahoo had launched a similar feature (Yahoo Updates) nearly a full year before Google.

Yahoo also tweeted the following post from the Yahoo Twitter account:

Two years after #Yahoo! launched #Buzz, Google follows suit. Check out the original: http://buzz.yahoo.com/

As TechCrunch points out, it's unusual for companies to respond so quickly with an official statement on a competitor's new product: 'Just the fact that Microsoft is speaking on the record about Buzz shows that the guys in Redmond are a little worried,' the tech blog opines.

Microsoft said in a statement on Google Buzz:

Busy people don't want another social network, what they want is the convenience of aggregation. We've done that. Hotmail customers have benefitted [sic] from Microsoft working with Flickr, Facebook, Twitter and 75 other partners since 2008.

Especially coming from Google's competitors, such criticism must be taken with a grain of salt. Business Insider has also blasted Google Buzz as 'late, boring and lame.'
