How To Make Your Own Personal Lubricant (VIDEO)

Now you can say you've seen it all. In the spirit of Valentine's Day, Grist's Umbra Fisk is sharing an "eco-sexy" tip that makes it clear you can really do anything yourself-- she's showing you how to make your own lube.

Conventional lubricants are full of chemicals, some of the same chemicals that are used in brake fluid and antifreeze, Fisk explained.

"So how do you get it on and not get toxic hooha syndrome?" Fisk asked.

Surprisingly, all you need is water and flaxseed.

Years ago when there was nothing else, we used olive oil!

Not with condoms though, just for really big things.

It also lathered up into a nice tasting "sacramental" lotion.

Flaxseed contains large amounts of linseed OIL. Oils destroy condoms. Even a tiny amount can create microscopic holes (small enough that someone could falsely assume this lube is safe). How can this be recommended?

petroleum-based oils destroy condoms, not water-based oils, like this one
