Jesper Parnevik Retire Retirement Back Injury

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Jesper Parnevik sounded optimistic about returning to golf Wednesday after speaking to a Michigan specialist who told him he could avoid surgery for a broken vertebrae.

One day after telling a Swedish tabloid that it would take a "miracle" for him to play golf again, Parnevik said rest and physical therapy could put him back on the PGA Tour in a couple of months.

He said he would go to Detroit next week to meet with Gary Gray, who specializes in applied functional science.

"It's painful and all that," Parnevik said from his home in south Florida. "The good news is I finally found out what's been bothering me the last few years. The good thing is now I can do something about it. The bad news is I never expected it would be a fractured vertebrae."

Parnevik, a five-time winner on the PGA Tour, told the Aftonbladet for a story Wednesday that doctors told him he would need joint fusion surgery, "which means I can't play anymore."

"I'll have to hope for a miracle if there's going to be any more competitive golf," he told the newspaper.

His mood changed considerably after speaking with Gray, recommended to him by Parnevik's sister, who he said once worked with the Detroit Red Wings.

"That I'm going to quit the game and my career is over is not the case," Parnevik said. "He was very optimistic that I could come back without having the surgery. I'm going to have to rest for a few months and go on his workout schedule. I'm going to do everything I can to get back and hopefully get rid of the stiffness and pain in my back, and play normal golf."

Parnevik had surgery on his left hip about nine years ago, and missed the second half of last year with surgery on his right hip.

He shot a 68 in the first round of the Northern Trust Open despite hitting 200-yard hooks off the tee and leaving himself fairway metals into most of the greens. He said it was the greatest 68 he had ever had. The 44-year-old Swede withdrew the next day.

"I did not not have a clue what to do about my back," Parnevik said. "Now I know exactly what to do. It was a very good phone call."

Parnevik recently made news for expressing his outrage at Tiger Woods' extramarital affairs. He once employed Woods' wife, Elin, as a nanny and introduced her to Woods.

So if you had a friend whose husband cheated with a dozen woman, you wouldn't be angry for your friend? Maybe you should grow a spine.

Jesper is a first class family man who, rightfully, expressed outrage over Tiger's behavior. He considers himself Elin"s second father and his goal is her protection. I've met him socially and he's the real deal.

Tiger Woods: great golfer, but a complete fraud.

It wasn't anyone's call to jump Tiger Woods, it is a family matter and certaintly not a fellow golfer. Tiger presence in golf has enabled purses to be so increased that Jesper can even consider retirement. He spoke out of turn and it wasn't right, and it is no damn body's business even now. Any of you so called critics of Tiger would break your necks to have a chance to carry his bags........period.

Jesper introduced them. She was his kids' nanny so he feels kind of responsible. Tiger of course is guilty as charged and Jesper was just stating the obvious and his rightgeous anger.

Hey, to all the people piling on Jesper...
Tiger is the one who F---ed up, not Jesper.
He had every right to speak his mind because he knows both of them personally. (even if I disagree with what he had to say)
At least he spoke up without fear.
And he was a pretty darned good golfer too. (5 PGA Tour titles is no small feat)
I love how Jesper is the bad guy because he spoke up against the mighty Tiger Woods.
Please people, get real.
The funny part is, I'm a big Tiger fan too, but Jesper just doesn't deserve this kind of abuse.
Get well Jesper, I would certainly like to watch you play some more.

To be honest he sounded jealous and overly emotionally attached to the story. The mighy Tiger Woods? He doesnt get talked about by any and everyone? There is not credit to be won for being fearless in talking about Tiger.
What was supposed to happen if you talk about TIger? Was he gonna get sent to Q-School? LMAO All ready there.
He should have focused on his own problems instead of trying to be the spokesman for Tiger hate
A better answer would have been " Look man I'm hurt over it but I've got my own sheet to worry about. As you can see I'm in Q School trying to get my tour card back. I couldnt care less about someone elses marriage right now" Then Jesper wouldnt be the psuedo villain you are overstating him to be..

Jesper is pure garbage...on and off the course. Anyone who knows golf will tell u dude always is opening his mouth about things he has no clue about. Tiger's situation was a prime example...but who really cares about a 3rd tier golfer anyways...the reason why we hate is b/c the only reason this article is here is b/c he spoke on Tiger. He's pure garbage and us haters have to tell the truth...

Jesper was in a unique position to comment regarding the Tiger Flap having been the person to introduce the couple. I would have been surprised if he didn't say something...

Doesn't anyone on here know that Jesper introduced them. She was his kids' nanny so he feels kind of responsible that she married the world's biggest cheat. Tiger of course is guilty as charged and Jesper was just stating the obvious and his rightgeous anger for vouching for Tiger to Erin.

"Jesper Parnevik: Talkin' about Golfers...cause I can't play anymore...."

After what he said about Tiger, I say good riddance..
