John Hughes

Vanity Fair:

On getting to know Hughes:

Ringwald: I remember the first thing that I saw of him"I didn't know what he looked like; I didn't know anything"were his tennis shoes. He was really into sneakers. It was not what I really thought of as a film director. His hair was spiky. He looked kind of relatable to me.

Broderick: He had his own cool. He was not a nerd. He had cool glasses, a cool haircut"well, it might not look so good now.

Just a suggestion: I am hoping that the Oscars award John Hughes posthumously an Oscar for his body of work in the Eighties. He never won any major award, or was even nominated, yet his movies are probably more fondly remembered than any during that period. All of the joy and laughter he brought to people through his movies should count for something and should be honored in some way by the Oscars, but unfortunately, that is unlikely.

I think the reason he became private is because he wanted to only be known for his good work. He knew that people associated him with the great teen flicks of the 80s and that is what he wanted his legacy to be. Scripts he wrote such as Drill Bit Taylor he stopped using his name he didn’t want to be known for those films. I also think that is the same reason he didn’t speak to Molly or John anymore. Just keep the memories of the past alive. I can understand that. Not very often do I want to see any of my old pals from the 80 either.

So insightful. Those movies were a huge part of my adolescence. Very cool to look back on the human side of making those ideas and stories come to life.

What took so long to talk about John Hughes? He died six months ago.

Last summer, Molly Ringwald wrote a really good article in the New York Times about how him:
