Smithsonian Roof Collapse
The Smithsonian roof collapse today in Maryland has some worried about Smithsonian artifacts.

Severe weather caused a Smithsonian roof collapse at a Smithsonian warehouse in Maryland this morning, according to WUSA-9, raising concerns about the conditions of Smithsonian artifacts.

Smithsonian spokeswoman Linda St. Thomas told the Associated Press that no artifacts were believed to be damaged since they are sealed in safety containers.

The incident took place at the Garber Facility in Suitland, Md., which contains aircraft, spacecraft and other artifacts for the National Air and Space Museum, according to its official Web site.

The Garber Facility Web site adds that it no longer gives public tours and the Smithsonian collection there is actually in the process of being transferred to the Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center.

A full evaluation of the site is expected to take place later, though emergency officials are holding off due to the building being unstable.
