Meanwhile, President Obama and the US Justice Department continue to obstruct justice in the investigation and prosecution of torture and other war crimes (like the murder of prisoners at Gitmo and elsewhere.

Holder and Obama should meet with the officials of the Catholic Church - they probably have alot in common - in their policies of obstruction - and probably in some of the acts committed by the degenerates they seek to protect.

Too bad.

Isn't being devious and dishonest part of the job description for a secret intelligence service?

Please don't go psycho on me ... but I cannot help but wonder --

Would the west react differently if the victims of torture were White (perhaps with the easily recognized blonde hair & blue eyes)?

So the British are complicit in torture? I guess that makes America guilty. Don't worry, there is no punishment for breaking the laws against torture in America. Fascist states need to have a robust torture program to instill fear. You know fear America, it is a regular part of your media diet. That is why you have so many hundreds of millions of guns. Boo!

But, but, but......

(whiney voice) What about the morale of MI5 and the CIA???? DON"T YOU CARE ABOUT THEIR MORALE???????

It would hurt everyone's feelings if those responsible including Yoo, Bybee, Rumsfeld, Cheney, Dubya, etc... were indicted for war crimes and treason.........

Demanding accountability for war crimes makes baby Jesus cry.... Lets all just look forward.

The UK actually has the biggest terrorist problem in the West. It has within its borders Europe's most unhappy Muslims. Combine that with a spineless government that relies on appeasement and multicultural psychobabble to stay in power and you have recipe for disaster.

The only person being appeased by the Blair government was George Bush.

For the public to entertain any notion that their governments' spy and security agencies follow humane practices with prisoners in their custody is naive at best, at worst blatant ignorance based on blind trust. Former ambassador to Uzbekistan, Craig Murray, was fired for revealing that the UK and US have routinely rendered prisoners to that nation's madman government to extract information by torture. And the CIA has a string of secret "black cells" located in various countries that conveniently turn blind eyes on, or cooperate in, torture. The only impact Lord Neuberger's findings will have is on the public's sensibilities and only those who, at any rate, value fair play. A June 2009 US poll found 52% can be at least sometimes justified to obtain information about terrorist activities from suspects, an increase from 38 percent in 2005 when the AP last asked the question. More than two-thirds of Republicans say torture can be justified compared with just over a third of Democrats.

If government sponsored torture doesn't scare the crap out of you, you're just not paying attention, and you don't know anything about history.

Nobody uses torture because they have to, it doesn't produce realiable, actionable information.

People use torture: 1) Because they enjoy inflicting pain on helpless people; and/or 2) As a tool of terror.

Torture is used by pschos for recreation and/or police-state authoritarians to frighten everyone into passive submission.

And it's like letting an evil genie out of the bottle. Once it's out, it is nearly impossible to put back in, and it's just a few easy steps from the torture of international detainees to local police torture for fun, power, and profit.

Stop it while you still can, if you still can.

You say that like the local police don't use torture now. Ever see a video of NYPD in action?

From the article:

"Amid mounting calls for an independent inquiry into the affair, three of the country's most senior judges – Lord Judge, the lord chief justice, Sir Anthony May, president of the Queen's Bench Division, and Lord Neuberger – disclosed evidence of MI5's complicity in Mohamed's torture and unlawful interrogation by the US."

So British judges now admit that the US was complicit in torture. When will Britain issue arrest warrants for the Americans responsible for this? Will Bush, Cheney and Company be charges in International Court for War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity NOW?

We'd be well advised to deal with our own political filth first. Miliband should be staring at 4 bare walls as fast as possible. Straw too. Blair goes to the Hague. He's got much worse things to answer for. These people must be dealt with. They're essentially the same as Pinochet.
05:29 PM on 02/11/2010
Every country should want their own criminals dealt with first. My argument for Bush and Cheney is to scare the pants of Harper, who apparently was sending prisoners captured by Canadian forces for torture. Then Harper can be arrested, convicted and can share a cell with all the criminals who have destroyed far to many lives (foreign and domestic), and countries, to be allowed freedom.
