Windows 8 To Be 'Mind-Blowing,' 'Completely Different:' RUMOR

Windows 8, Better Than Windows 7?

Microsoft just launched Windows 7 in late 2009, but already, the Redmond company is working on the next iteration of its operating system: Windows 8.

Rumors are swirling in the wake of a January 31, 2010 blog post entitled, "Whats in store for the next Windows?" [sic] reportedly written by a Microsoft employee on the MSDN blog.

The original post has since been removed, but versions are still circulating the blogosphere (Microsoft Kitchen claims to have the full post) and fueling speculation about the future of Windows 8.

The post included the following detail:

The minimum that folks can take for granted is that the next version will be something completly different from what folks usually expect of Windows - I am simply impressed with the process that Steven has setup to listen to our customers needs and wants and get a team together than can make it happen. To actually bring together dozens and dozens of teams across Microsoft to come up with a vision for Windows.next is a process that is surreal! The themes that have been floated truly reflect what people have been looking for years and it will change the way people think about PCs and the way they use them. It is the future of PCs...

As Microsoft Kitchen notes, this blogger isn't the only Microsoft employee excited about the next Windows OS:

John Mangelaars, Regional VP of Consumer and Online at Microsoft EMEA, is quoted today on the website CIO as saying the following: "[Apple is] doing well on the PC side but Windows 7 is a blockbuster. We got it really right. For me, Windows 8 will be mind-blowing."

While there's no word on when a new Windows OS could be expected, Microsoft is expected to unveil its new Mobile Windows 7 at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

According to CNET, Microsoft will be holding a Mobile Windows 7 press conference on February 15 at 9AM ET hosted by CEO Steve Ballmer.
