Erick Erickson Endorses Ken Buck Over Jane Norton For Colorado Senate

Influential right-wing blogger Erick Erickson of Redstate.com has announced his support for underdog Senate candidate Ken Buck over Jane Norton in Colorado. In a post on Redstate, Erickson wrote of Buck:

I'm sending him some money. I like this guy. He can win. There are some others in the race, but I think Ken's back ground is going to help him win. He's an aggressive defender of TABOR. He's a prosecutor who sees first hand just how badly bungled the feds have made criminal prosecution in this country. He knows from his day job that when the feds decide to federalize everything, it weakens the states.

He's right on the issues. I like him. We're not going to have to wonder if he's one of those "split the baby" politicians.

Erickson has worked with conservative South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint to push conservative GOP candidates over moderates throughout the country. In November, when the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) endorsed moderate Charlie Crist's run for Congress in Florida, Erickson discouraged readers from donating to candidates backed by the NRSC.

Buck, the Weld County District Attorney, is considered a long shot to win the Republican nomination. The front-runner, former Lieutenant Governor Jane Norton, has close ties to powerful national Republicans. Buck raised only $40,000 in the fourth quarter of 2009, compared with Norton's $550,000.

Erickson, however, is the second powerful national conservative to back Buck. Last month, a group called Campaign for Liberty, which endorsed Ron Paul for President in 2008, spent $350,000 on an ad that thanked Buck for standing up for conservative values.
