Best source of info for cooking are printed books by classic authors! Far more informative and reliable.

The Epicurious app is really good and FREE. I'm not big on techy gimmics but I've used that app over a dozen times already.

You don't need all these distractions. All you need is a good recipe, fresh groceries and a stove. Don't get sidetracked by gimmicks.

Actually, these really help me as I'm just getting started as a cook for my family. I really appreciate Huffington post taking the time to post these options to readers like me that have a difficult time coming up with new and delicious ways to cook.

I've been cooking a long time, and I've found some very useful apps for both cooking and shopping.

Two of my favorites are the Whole Foods app, for recipes, and Grocery IQ for shopping.

The Grocery IQ app has really been an improvement in my life. I can build an ongoing grocery list as I become aware of items that I need. I may carry around the list for a week before I go to the store, but I only have to remember a needed item once when I put it on my list. Then I can go to any store in our area - hit a button - and my list is put in order according to how that store is organized. I can also email my Grocery IQ list to my wife if she is at the store.

I understand the point that Ljilja is making, but in my experience I've discovered some apps that actually eliminate distractions rather than add to them. And invariably those are the apps that I use the most.

What is a distraction for you is a convenience for me. "One good recipe" is not nearly enough.
