COLUMN: Long-Distance Relationships Need More Than Skype To Survive

How did long-distance relationships function without cell phones and the goodies of the 21st century? I'm sure you've heard of a story in which adoration was exchanged through letters written across many miles, carried on the wings of tireless love. If these relationships triumphed over distance with nothing more than paper and ink, surely they should be simpler to maintain today.
