Girl Scout Cookie Recall 2010: Lemon Cookies RECALLED By Little Brownie Bakers

First Posted: 04/28/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 04:40 PM ET

Girl Scout Cookie Recall
A Girl Scout Cookie Recall has taken place due to strange test and smell of some cookies.

A girl scout cookie recall was announced today by girl scout cookie maker Little Brownies Baker due to an off smell and taste for some cookies.

According to the Better Business Bureau, lemon chalete cremes cookies have been recalled due to complaints, though they are reportedly safe to eat.

The Louisville, Kentucky-based company said that no bacteria was found in the cookies and they are simply "not up to our quality standards."

Those who have purchased one of the affected girl scout cookie boxes can call 1-800-962-1718 or visit www.littlebrowniebakers.com for more information.

As of this writing, there was no mention of the girl scout cookie recall on the official Girl Scouts Web site.

This is priceless! I WAS involved with the Girl Scout organization - no more. The Nationally mandated re-organization has left our local scouts with no leadership. All of their cookie money goes to support urban scouting 1.5 to 2 hours away. The girls HAVE to sell the cookies otherwise they aren't allowed to participate in any private fund-raising for their troop. (No car washes or bake sales unless they sell the cookies.) Those of us that disagreed with what the new council leadership was doing have been asked to leave. (Not the type of volunteers they are looking for I guess) The only thing that got the leadership's attention was a threat to boycott cookie sales when the new leadership closed a local scout camp.

It's a pretty sad state of affairs when adults receive their high dollar salaries (the local CEO gets around $150,000/year) from sales generated by children and they can't even make sure it's a quality product.

Way to go!

Don't know what this world is coming to ... Goldman Sachs, Toyota, and now Girl Scout Cookies.

The cookies are not contaminated but have an "off-taste"? What's the matter, didn't they use good girl scouts in their ingredients?

Thank goodness we only got the peanut butter whatevers (YUM!) and the thin mints.

There is no recall. Using the word recall is not accurate.
Little Brownie Baker announced a quality withdrawal of product and is working directly with Girl Scout councils to replace about 6% of the total Lemon Chalet supply in the market. Meaning that 94% of the Lemon Cremes produced and purchased are just fine. There is a statement on the Girl Scout website posted on on 2/26.

why, this sounds like a statement from the girl scouts or from the bakery involved...hmmm...

Well spotted!

The correct terminology in this situation is very important. Critical actually. The word recall is one that the food industry and FDA take very seriously and is bound to product safety practices.

Have 2 boxes of these lemon cookies, plus another trefoil box, sitting on the counter. Guess my GS'er will be getting the lemons back.

Better for the bakery to be pro-active than re-active later when problems arise. So, kudos to them for being honest. But...they had better make "good" to the GS due to lost sales.

I am a huge proponent of Girl Scouting - however they could REALLY get positive PR (and probably ramp up sales too) if they made an effort to go with organic bakeries and quality ingredients. My kids are teens now, & they've had their fair share of goodies in their life, but they were always my home-baked cookies, where I could list all the ingredients, rather than crap like Oreos or GS cookies. When you think of the rise in obesity in children and the health problems of our nation, such a move would make GS more relevant than ever.

Cheap junk factory food made in the south...just what I want my kids to eat. We support both the girl and boy scouts, but wish they's make money off something other than selling cheap junk food.
04:23 AM on 02/27/2010
nobody said you had to buy....and if you really support girl scouts you would not make stupid comments about stuff you know nothing about.....cause them cookies are not cheap

Oh, but people who don't buy get pointed at and called "anti-social", "child-hater", et cetera...
