It's actually NOT a good idea to make a quilt out of old clothing. Yes it can be done - but variations in wear and tightness of weave, finding coordinating fabrics, etc., make for a lot of work and a quilt that won't wear very well. It's possible to find high quality cottons on sale at fabric stores, and quilting stores - which generally have the best variety - often have sale racks.

But by all means - make a quilt. It does require just basic sewing skills for beginners.

I'm in the midst of crocheting a huge single granny square afghan. I'm waiting for the yarn to get here so I can finish. In the mean time, I crocheted shawls for me and my girls. They are also really good at keeping you warm. I love crocheting. It gives my hands something to do when I'm watching TV.

It's one of my New Years Resolutions. I WILL crochet a blanket this year, even if it's just granny squares.

You left out weaving which can be done without a floor loom - it just takes longer. All skills which we used to use all the time. I crochet and weave and am learning to felt. Keep that dog and cat hair to re- use for yarn or felting.

I love to knit and crochet. I usually wind up giving away my blankets as gifts. People seem to really appreciate them because it comes from the heart.

They do mean a lot, and they last so much longer than store bought blankets. I am sure they are cherished for years. I am a compulsive knitter. I can't keep my hands still.

Most of the sweaters you'll find in your closet will not work for felting unless they are 100% wool. I don't buy wool sweaters because they're scratchy, pricey and are fussy to clean. I'll bet most of the sweaters in other people's closets are the same.

Other than that, not a bad list.

I mostly crochet, knit and quilt. I'm quite warm and cosy.

Actually, felting will take place as long as there is 85% wool or other animal fibers.

You don't need 100% wool to felt, and you can find wool sweaters for cheap at thrift stores.
