Is Johnny Weir "Too Gay" For Figure Skating? (VIDEO)

First Posted: 04/28/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 04:40 PM ET

While pundits have deemed him "too gay for figure skating," the fact is Johnny Weir is a U.S. champion athlete, no matter how insane his costumes or suggestive his moves are. This week, Bryan Safi explored how the "flamboyant" figure skater has prompted such complaints from talking heads as, "I don't need to watch a prima ballerina on the ice." Wait, you don't? Because we were under the impression that that's what figure skating IS. Or wait, is that ice dancing?

That is so stupid. Saying figure skating to too gay is like saying church is too religious.

Silly headline. A fair response to the headline: "Weir is optimally gay."

Silly headline question. "No," OK. "Yes" means he shouldn't be allowed on the ice.
Whoever wins a sport or game using the existing rules is perfect for the winner's role. The next headline in this series will ask if DADT will be good for figure skating.

The only way to earn back your man badge after figure skating is to go into the woods armed only with a butter knife and come out wearing bear pelt.

However you define it (even if you say figure skating is a household chore), it's still in the Olympic Games.
BTW, the post asks if Weir's too gay.

It's impossible to be "too gay" for figure skating. It's the one sport where you can be who you are without any regrets and walk away at the end of the day with a gold medal.

Can anyone name the second guy on the US men's figure skating team when Brian Boitano was skating? I sure can't. The US public doesn't remember the also-rans. We'll barely remember that Russian guy who did that one trick that was harder and sucked the rest of the time, then whined about getting the Silver Medal, and THAT GUYS DICTATOR....UHHH, I MEAN PRESIDENT WEIGHED IN ON THE ISSUE!

As for the the flamboyance, people typically overemphasize their accessories and peripheral decorations when they want people see THAT and NOT SEE THEM. Shame and a severe lack of self confidence and self awareness are typically associated with such people.
