James Inhofe Interview: Senate's Top Skeptic Explains His Climate Theory

Inhofe

Grist:

Inhofe didn't get as much attention as he might have hoped for during his December visit to Copenhagen to denounce climate treaty negotiations, but he tried to reclaim the stage this week during a Senate hearing that addressed EPA's efforts to regulate greenhouse gases. He argued that "the science of the IPCC ... has been totally discredited" and unveiled an 84-page report titled 'Consensus' Exposed: The CRU Controversy.

I spoke with Inhofe by phone right after the hearing about who's perpetrating the climate hoax, who's being hoodwinked by it, and why he doesn't believe clean energy creates jobs.

wonder if inhofe believes that the burning of coal and oil the past 100 years has released enough mercury to contaminate every fish in the world.....and 25% of them to a level where they shouldn't be eaten....

This guy was an extremist rightie from his younger days as an Oklahoma congressman representing Tulsa and environs. He hasn't changed. But it would be nice if Oklahoma would see the light one day.

Inhofe claims that this is "cooked-up science?"

Aaaand... what about his Born-Again Christian buddies who COOK UP this creation-science garbage? Bend science to fit religion. Inhofe, people who live in glass houses...

His top villain is the Heinz Foundation! Catsup. Really?!

We have eight thin miles of atmosphere above us and BILLIONS of humans on the planet now all lighting their little fires to boil water whether it's on bare dirt or in coal fired plants. Get a grip. It has got to make a difference.

You say it is hyperbole, what does it exaggerate? What are the imaginable, non-calamitous effects of the human contribution to global warming?

Senator Inhoffe's comments illustrate what is so wrong in some parts of Washington, D.C today. His comments and citations that supposedly validate them are based on information provided by the various lobbies representing the fossil fuel industry. If there is money-there is access. It is a sad reflection that he does not bother to ask for opposing views. A well trained mind looks to valid sources and welcomes a spectrum of differing points-of-view to find the truth.
My question is, Since when do we rely on our elected officials for our science information?
The greatest failure of American society at this moment is a grossly uninformed electorate that provides a soapbox for the seriously ignorant.
While these people put forth these arguments our country is falling behind as a world leader, in technology, education, and the ability to move into a very uncertain future.

Well, I don't know if the climate is warming because of mankind or not. But what I do know is we shouldn't be polluting as much as we do.

If you want to clean up the environment I'm all for it. If you want to control the pollution then I'm with you.

But if you want to set up a system that makes a lot of rich and powerful people even richer and more powerful then keep moving, I'm not interested.

Now, I don't know if Cap and Trade will help the environment but I am sure it will make a lot of rich people richer.

If you want my support then come up with a system where ALL of the people benefit instead of a select few.

Really, think about it. The money from regulation could end world poverty and hunger. Clean up the atmosphere and give everyone access to fresh water.

So for once in history lets create something that benefits EVERYONE not just a select few...

From the Institute of Physics' submission to the Parliamentary Committee:

"10. ..... most of the e-mails were exchanged with researchers in a number of leading institutions involved in the formulation of the IPCC's conclusions on climate change. In so far as these scientists were complicit in the alleged scientific practices, there is a need for a wider inquiry into the integrity of the scientific process in this field."

Perhaps the Senator from Oklahoma would like to lead the "wider inquiry" into the integrity of the scientific process, which is a need identified by the submission from the 36,000 member Institute of Physics in Great Britain.

Since you admire the Institute of Physic's opinion, I'll trust you'll also adopt their strong defense of the science of global warming? They've published quite a bit of research on the matter.

The Institute of Physic's submission is a serious threat to so-called climate science, as it would require the release of all data, adjustments and computer code upon publication of studies. The leading IPCC climate scientists have long refused to release these items, for reasons that are not clear or understood.

The IoP's anonymous accusations doesn't in any way require anyone to release anything. Besides, there is nothing left to release. You have all the emails and work product, and the data has been available for years. Your position is based on the demand that CRU give people something that someone else owns. Meanwhile, you could have the data from the owners anytime you like.

Your post is a lie.

Well, we all know who makes $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ off the status quo these days. The corporations sure don't want anything to change, except their bottom lines going up.
You think the baby boomers are being blamed for "greed' now, wait'll this new generation drops the ball. If their kids survive, they will call them criminal for destroying the planet.

It's really too bad we get such creatures as Inhofe in our representative bodies. He's more igorant than the deniers on this thread. I hear they totally dismissed him in Copenhagen after he used taxpayer money to fly over there to rant and rave and tell everyone who's been studying this for years how very wrong they are. HA!
