Mayor Daley Subpoenaed By Calvin Boender's Defense Team: Boender Accused Of Bribing Ald. Issac "Ike" Carothers

Mayor Daley has been subpoenaed to testify for the defense in the upcoming trial of developer Calvin Boender, who is accused of bribing Ald. Issac "Ike" Carothers .

Daley received the subpoena Tuesday, City Hall's Corporation Counsel Mara Georges told the Chicago Sun-Times.

"On Tuesday, February 23rd, my office received a subpoena from the defense for the Mayor's appearance at trial in the Cal Boender case," Georges said in the statement. "If the court finds that the Mayor's testimony is relevant and required, he will testify."

Boender is accused of bribing Carothers, offering $40,000 in home improvement for the alderman in exchange for a zoning change. Ten aldermen have also been subpoenaed.

Carothers pleaded guilty to accepting bribes earlier this month, and resigned from his job as 29th Ward alderman on Feb. 1. The plea deal requires him to spend more than two years in prison.
