Teenage Girls Cut Baby From Mother's Womb: Reports

Two teenage girls allegedly performed a crude caesarean on a pregnant woman in an attempt to steal her baby, according to Colombian media.

The two girls, aged 16 and 14, attempted amateur surgery on seven-month pregnant Maria Amparo Rivera Girata, who is 18 years old. The assault took place on Monday in the central Colombian town of Duitama.

The 16-year-old girl wanted to take the baby to replace her own baby after she miscarried and did not tell her boyfriend.

Girata was lured to a location where a knife was held to her throat, her feet and hands were bound and her abdomen cut open to remove the baby.

The woman was found by members of the Defensa Civi still conscious. The 14 year old was arrested nearby and the 16 year old arrested at a nearby hospital. Both girls are now charged with attempted murder and grievous bodily harm.

Doctors have raised the possibility that another person, perhaps with a knowledge of medical science, was also involved.

"It is surprising that these two girls were able to carry out the surgery without damaging other organs near the uterus," Ernesto Giraldo, head of the intensive care unit at the Duitama Hospital where Girata is recovering, told Colombia's El Tiempo newspaper.

"Especially considering the patient was obviously awake and fighting to stop them from removing her child."

Girata is in a critical condition at the hospital. Her new born son is said to be making a good recovery.

Ya think? I am guessing that this is about the black market adoption business, except that they used to wait until there was a birth before stealing the infant to give to people whose desire over road their responsibility to ask questions.

Come on guys, start fact checking, this is a hoax! Where are the interviews with witnesses? Is it realistic that a 14yo and 16yo can perform that kind of procedure in public and not hurt any other organs or kill the woman? Who is the doctor and how was he interviewed? Did you actually break the story or was it seen somewhere else ('friend of a friend' type situation, very urban legend-like) Where are the pictures of the assailants, victim before the attack or the doctor? It's all color and no facts. etc... The fact is, if it sounds too outrageous to be true, 99.999999% of the time it is.

Dr. Giraldo is the doctor who is overseeing her care:

This is a sickening crime. I'd like to know if there's any common thread among this and other cases like it. This isn't the first one, and it's so jarring, bizarre and terrible, it makes the news every time. It's disgusting for women to behave like this. Anyone who would do this has no reverence for life or motherhood.

When an operation becomes routine, criminals like to get it on the act. Criminals like to facilitate illegal organ transplants from unwilling victims, and apparently some of them like to take babies by c-section. It's disgusting. These cases should be thoroughly investigated, researched and stopped so we never hear of this happening in the future.

My 28 yr old daughter is 7 months pregnant and her husband doesn't want to going anywhere alone because of this horror happening over and over. The things people have to worry about now days is mind boggling.

I don't know if this is happening more often now or we just hear of it. 20 years ago this story would not get airtime here in America. There just wasn't enough newspaper/TV space to accommodate every story in the world the way the Internet allows for.

That said, pregnant women have always been vulernable and that's not a bad idea that your son-in-law is soo protective though realistically hardly necessarry.
