Porn For Bibles At Texas College

A student group at the University of Texas-San Antonio likens the Bible to porn -- so much so that they allow students on campus to trade religious texts for pornographic ones during an annual event.

The "Smut for Smut" campaign, sponsored by the Atheist Agenda, had a clamorous kick-off Monday on the school's campus. According to the UTSA Paisano:

A screaming, singing throng of UTSA students circled around the steps running from the JPL to the MS, anchored to a small booth offering the strange trade as opponents of the Atheist Agenda's methods gathered in protest ... Signs carried above the crowd included messages such as "Jesus Saves" and "Jesus loves the Atheist Agenda," as well as more simple ones that consisted of nothing more than a penciled peace sign on a scrap of notebook paper. Others began singing hymns, including "Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so."

Through the growing wind and threats of rain, the two groups grew larger into the afternoon, and police began maintaining a safety buffer between the two groups. Inside this no-man's-land, a third party began to form, composed of proclaimed agnostics asking for peace.

Atheist Agenda President Carlos Morales told The Paisano that the Bible condones the mistreatment as much as pornography. "I wouldn't want to live by what they call 'morality' in the bible," he said.

The San Antonio Express-News reports that the event has garnered a large following, locally and nationally.

The Atheist Agenda started at UTSA in 2005, and their first "Smut for Smut" campaign blew up into a national media sensation. Past president Thomas Jackson was deluged with interview requests, and debated Tucker Carlson, the bow-tie-wearing conservative pundit, on MSNBC.

By the end of the day Monday, the group received ten religious texts. The event will continue until mid-week.

...and everyone wonders why our country is falling apart. If you read the bible you would see that 80% of it's prophecies have come true, and the other 20% of predictions are going to come true. The more archeologists dig, the more they uncover the authenticity of the bible. It has yet to be proven wrong, it's just people's blindness and pride that makes them think otherwise. The bible also talks about that.It says that in the end days people will be full of pride, care only about the flesh (worldly things), and hate those who love Jesus. Everything other god will be accepted, except Jesus, and that is exactly what's going on. Schools teach our kids the wrong things and it is "normal". God warns us not to do things for our own good, not to punish us or make our life hell. He wants to make our life on earth heaven. If you think that life ends here and we came from chimps then you must have deep down feelings of lonliness. There is only one thing that will fill your void, and it's not sex, drugs, porn, STD's, pride, or any of those things. That stuff will just hurt you and those who love you. Porn will not bring you love, salvation, or eternal life.

"Atheist Agenda" don't feel too smart - they've always ridiculed the God-fearing - you're not doing anything new!
To liken to Bible to porn is not really convincing - just shocking witness that you have not thought and maybe have not read.
We need a better agenda than the smut you offer.

The Christian bible, or any bible for that matter, may not be true in a literal sense, but that does not mean that it does not contain true and meaningful ideas. On an abstract level, everything is nothing more than an idea. The Christian bible is a vast collection of stories and thoughts from many different sources and times.

Yes, concepts of morality change over time, yet the most fundamental things do not. Showing disrespect for such a diverse heritage of thought is an endorsement of ignorance. I don't understand what many who consider themselves atheists are so hot to prove.

No one really cares what any of these self-proclaimed athiests believe or don't believe. We all create out of our thoughts and ideas the inner worlds that we each must inhabit. There's so much more wisdom in cultivating beautiful thoughts and images than in fixating on divisions and conflict. Truth = Beauty. The world is just a poem or a song, and You are the composer.

Playboy has some good articles too. Sticking to bronze age texts is an endorsement of ignorance. Some of our heritage (like slavery) is worthy of disrespect.

Playboy actually has some amazing articles. I recently came into possession of a huge collection and am astonished at the prescience in the articles.

The Bible is great if taught as a historical document like the constitution, not as the word of some invisible polygamist alien.

No one really cares what uppity christians think either. Yet they proselytize, march and throw their significant amounts of money and weight behind whatever cause they deem "moral". Yeah Morality changes over time, theirs just happened to jump off the deep end of the crazy pool. Not everyone mind you, just the jesus camp folks. Atheists, Agnostics, and the Spiritual But not Religious deserve their voice as well.

I agree that life is a song, a beautiful composition that's free to enjoy for all. But you cant create that song without harmony.
