Western Oil Industry Grew Faster Than Any Other Industry In The 2000's

Nationally, wireless carriers and specialty-food manufacturers spun off the strongest sales growth during the 2000s, according to Sageworks.

But in the Western states, including Colorado, oil and gas companies led the pack, said Drew White, chief financial officer with the North Carolina company that aggregates financial data on private companies.

Privately held oil and gas producers in the West averaged annual sales growth of 19.5 percent a year during the past decade. Not far behind were wholesalers of petroleum products, who averaged revenue growth of 19.4 percent a year.
