A-Hole Dominates iPod Bidding War (PHOTO)

We feel a little bad for this so-called "Caroline," who did everything right when trying to hunt down her lost iPod. But we have to side the rogue a-hole who has beautifully outbid her in "Price Is Right"-esque fashion. Sorry sister, but he deserves that iPod after a stunt like this. (via The High Definite)

People listen up, I work at a High School, and believe me kids don't lose their Ipods, they "leave" them somewhere and then claim someone took it. this is the new culture, they can't even walk between classes without calling someone, some even try and do it in class.

My daughter had her iPod taken from school. I called Apple - they could not help me. I went to the Apple support forums and found out something really interesting, from their own blogs:

Every time you plug an iPod into your PC to use iTunes, it phones home and reports your computer name, IP address and ISP. They know the house and machine used. Apple stores records every connection. Apple refuses to provide this information to the iPod owner or police. They thought about charging a $9.99 yearly fee for this feature, sending the last 10 addresses to police, but decided not to.

You can buy a Lo-Jack type product, but it is only a software install and not a firmware one. If the perp formats the drive before plugging it in, the tracking software is deleted.

Many iPod users were angry at this, including me. Bloggers stated that Apple feels that a person who steals and iPod, probably never would buy one, but once having it, they would buy songs from them. A person who had an iPod is likely to buy a replacement one. Either way, they make a fistful of cash from song sales and gain an additional iPod sale.

I'm not sure if this is the real reason, but it was posted in their own forums, many times?

WHY WOULDN'T A COMPANY, IF IT ALREADY HAD THE TECHNOLOGY TO DO IT, PROTECT THEIR OWN LOYAL CUSTOMERS? THAT'S THE QUESTION THAT BEGS TO BE ANSWERED!

So your daughter lost her iPod and you lost your peace of mind. I'd say she's much better off than you in this situation.

She definitely is much better off. I ended up replacing it with a newer model. I was surprised to see that Apple willfully suppresses their customers ability to reclaim their iPods. Not that it was difficult, but that they refuse to help. How many pennies does it cost to send an electronic report to the police?

Too much TV watching time - but a classic move! Yes, Apple - send him a prior-generation iPod!

Kind of like how Michael Jackson outbid Paul McCartney (by $2 million) to get control of the Beatles' early work.

the last 4 digits are 3268... if there are any good crank callers out there (for the sign with 51$'s that is.)
