Jeff Garlin appeared on 'Regis and Kelly' Wednesday to talk about his drastic diet, which he started while filming the seventh season of 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' in the face of Larry David taunting him with cheeseburgers and milkshakes. He said he hasn't had sugar in over a year-- because he's an addict, he had to quit cold turkey.
"When it came to sugar, it was just stop," he said. "It took three weeks of not sleeping, of feeling miserable, and then BOOM. I had energy, I felt good, I saw the world in a much clearer way."
Garlin said he's stopped eating fast food and meat too. His 'Curb' costars Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen once suggested a diet they had recently read about that involved eating an avocado or a piece of chocolate after each meal.
"I said, 'what?'" he said. "If I have a piece of chocolate, I'm gone. I'll eat the cookies and ice cream and everything."
Garlin is promoting his new book, 'My Footprint: Carrying the Weight of the World," about lightening his physical and ecological footprint.
