Emma Watson -- Brown University
1 of 10
She's beautiful, intelligent, and sitting on loads of cash from the Harry Potter film franchise, but Watson insists she just wants "to be normal." Says Watson: “I really want anonymity. I want to do [the college experience] properly, like everyone else. As long as I don’t walk in and see, like, Harry Potter posters everywhere, I’ll be fine.” In addition to her literature course load, Emma is taking a geology class this semester. Looks like Jerry O'Connell's got at least a minor going in advanced biology. Cute date.

Don't strain yourselves taxing the mental faculties of writing rhetorical papers and possibly having to take an accounting class.

Omarosa is the perfect example of the wrong person getting this kind of degree, It looks like a "money " inspired choice more than anything. After seeing her performance on the Trump show I wouldn't trust her with the soul of a flea.

C'mon Emma, the world could use some cute female geologists. Maybe this class will turn her on to it!
06:58 AM on 03/08/2010
Physics? Maths? Natural Sciences of any kind? Well, Emma Watson was doing a geology class I suppose.

Chelsea Clinton 'incredibly well-educated'? In what exactly? Pure BS judging by the nebulous names of the programs she's studied. Try sciences. And go right through to a PhD. Then, dear, you'll actually be able to claim to 'know something'.

Incidentally, this is the gigantic problem in education that the US is now facing. The celebs are a microcosm of it.

How obnoxious of you. You sound like an individual who studied science but is jealous of the attention these people are receiving even though they didn't choose to study what you chose. Studying science must have not gotten you all that far otherwise you wouldn't be beating up these folks for pursuing their dreams.
08:38 AM on 03/08/2010
Completely agree! Only a nerd wannabe would suggest that you need a PhD in math or science to be considered "well-educated." I'm guessing Stanford wouldn't give him the time of day and Oxford would very politely laugh.
11:52 AM on 03/08/2010
I was an international business major in college, and I didn't see the point of killing myself with biology or chemistry to fulfill my science requirement. So I took geology, because I used to collect rocks and gemstones as a child. Stop being so condescending.
04:35 PM on 03/08/2010
You missed the point of education completely then.

To all the cry babies who are throwing a fit because a handful of child celebs, many of whom do manage to have the discipline to keep thin, or memorize a ton of lines. For all those who think that acting is not about practice and is not a artistic talent valued by society and educational institutions alike. For all those who allow their self loathing to or jealousy to cloud their thinking. I have just two words and a letter: George W. Bush
07:29 PM on 03/07/2010
Boy, there seems to be a lot of intellectual jealousy in the comments tonight. Before you begrudge a quality education to anyone, it's be interesting to know just how hard you worked (or didn't work) to earn one for yourself.
09:17 PM on 03/07/2010
i've found that on these boards, if you have a codified expertise in an area.. in mine, foreign policy, for example... people are jealous enough to assume that since they watch the news and have read a few books, they're capable of being taken as seriously as you when inside the debate. it is irritating to say the least.
09:24 PM on 03/07/2010
Indeed..

Admission to these institutions are NOT based upon "celebrity". They don't NEED "trophy students" to raise funds NOR to raise their STATUS.

These kids are SMART...they have EXCELLED in their endeavors & it is BECAUSE of their successes that some here are INTIMIDATED by them,

Juvenile JEALOUSIES, nothing more.

There are many, many volumes of proof, but that right there should totally invalidate your assertions.

Many of the rest of us could run circles around the Christy Turlingtons of this world. This article just reminds us once again of the fundamental unfairness of a capitalistic society, and how US educational institutions reinforce this inequity.

It might not be perfect, but it's the best system.

I shudder to think of living in your ideal communist communal world where each individual is relegated to performing a robotic task regardless of ability.

Men value looks more because it is a quick and easy way to determine genetic fitness and ability to bear offspring. Women need a man for the long term so they care more about wealth, job potential, and a desirable personality for raising their progeny.

We guys are wired to value looks above all else. It is just the way things are. Deal with it.
==========================

obviously, the process of evolution has left you stranded.

please let us know when you make it to dry land.

i'm sure your "girl" will be pleased to know it as well.
05:08 PM on 03/07/2010
actually I'm the exception to the rule. But my variety of guy friends fit that mold, and I think they would agree with that assessment.

Sorry girls. But most guys are pervs. Hence the 50% divorce rate, which is usually the man's fault because he is wired to spread his seed to as many disireable females as possible.

Here is a study to prove my point. The fact that so many people are disagreeing with the obvious points I made shows and deluded and hopeless some women are:

http://channels.isp.netscape.com/love/package.jsp?name=fte/whatmenwant/whatmenwant&floc=wn-nx

The study: Forty-six adults--26 men and 20 women--in the Munich speed-dating session were asked to fill out a special questionnaire beforehand assessing themselves and their ideal mate according to evolutionarily relevant traits, such as physical attractiveness, present and future financial status, health and parenting qualities.

The results: Participants stated they wanted to find someone who was like them--a socially acceptable answer. But once the sessions began, the men sought the more attractive women, while the women were drawn to material wealth and security, setting their standards according to how attractive they viewed themselves. Furthermore, while men on average wanted to see half of the women again, the women wanted to meet only a third of the men again.

The study findings have been published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, September 2007.

that you think that one survey about speed dating says it all about thousands of years of an evolving relationship between the genders says it all.
10:42 PM on 03/07/2010
The study doesn't even prove anything. Standards of beauty are entirely socialized and inherently arbitrary. There is no correlation between physical 'beauty' and supposed genetic viability.

Fact is, you cannot tell anything about someone's genetic advantage by how they look, it's fundamentally arbitrary. That you would ascribe any sort of extra value to physical appearance is inherently absurd. Every man who takes this argument deserves to be shamed. Yet another poorly-argued defense of masculine privelege.
