This performance gets better the second time you watch it, and listen to her. I do like how Lady Gaga twists the pure pop song form, and I liked the strange throat scream near the end -

but I didn't like the weird abrupt ending, but I'm not sure how much I don't like it or it is just different to me.

Here are some classic lyrics on brown and blue eyes, by the poet Laurence Hope ~

Upon the City Ramparts, lit up by sunset gleam,
The Blue eyes that conquer, meet the Darker eyes that dream.

The Dark eyes, so Eastern, and the Blue eyes from the West,
The last alight with action, the first so full of rest.

Brown, that seem to hold the Past; its magic mystery,
Blue, that catch the early light, of ages yet to be.

And another poet's take on brown eyes:

Your eyes have seen dark seasons pass,
rich eyes, brown, with soft centered flowers.
To spark a fire in those circles at last
I've wished and worshipped unnumbered hours.

I'm mildly surprised! I always thought Lady Gaga (?!?!) was little more than a Paris Hilton protege. (meaning a no-talent who has to rely heavily on gimmicks to get media attention). Its clear the girl has a measure of ability but the outrageous costumes have been done before she was even born. Watching this immediately took me back 30 years when Elton John was all the rage. I'm certainly relieved that she uses her talent rather than pushing people's buttons or pissing everybody off just to get noticed.

But at the same time all these accolades like "genius" I think are stretching it a bit. Recently PBS had a Rounder Records anniversary and one of the best performer there was Allison Krause who has absolutely no need for worn out gimmicks like outlandish costumes to put on a fist rate show

The older I get the harder I am to impress.

I think she is earning enough money doing what she wants to do. She has spent years perfecting her act and probably doesn't care what any of us think.

She is superbly creative for a 23 year old.

She is. The lyrics of her songs are very intelligent.

And she comes across very well in this interview as someone who knows herself well, unusual in a woman that young. As long as she keeps her head screw_ed on straight, she'll go far. I expect she'll be around for a long time.

You either hate her or you love her. I personally think she is an extraordinary artist. It is the whole package that impresses me. There is a tremendous amount of planning, design and thought that goes into every appearance. You are always left wondering what she will do next, what will she look like, what will she be singing. I was a little freaked by her at first but the more I saw her and heard her the more I recognized the talent. Is she a great singer... not really. She's a good singer. She is an artist. Criticizing her is like criticizing Salvador Dali for screwing up the clocks in The Persistence of Memory. She's an artist. It's her thing.

Why so bitter?

If nothing else she's got a great voice.

She's also been an amazing pianist since a very young age. I'm not really a big fan of the mainstream music that she is currently putting out but she is actually an incredibly talented artist that is displaying a contrasting image to her upbringing.
Whether she is in the MSM as Lady Gaga or behind the scenes as Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, I have a feeling that she'll be making a impact for a long time.

And to respond to the posts that states that she is just another madonawannabe, I think that she is more influenced by Dale Bozzio, of Missing Persons.

Brilliant performance. I can tell that her style is inspired by Christina Aguilera, Grace Jones, and a little RuPaul.

I'm not a Lady Gaga fan, but I'm not a hater. So far she hasn't blown me away with her music, but I realize, to each their own. However, maybe if she focused on the music and not so much on her costumes, people's nasty opinions about her would change. Right now, she seems to be taking the Madonna/Cher route. Lots of fabulousity, but not a lot of substance (that we can see/feel.) The music should always speak for itself without all the bells and whistles.

But she's selling millions of albums and filling auditoriums. Why act like pleasing you is her goal?

There's two LGG's ... one is the FANTASTIC video montage LGG ... the other is the still video performer with a lot of costume / glamor going on. I'm into the video montage LGG ... pure and simple, no argument ... that's what has made her famous ... and although she is talented as a performer she is just not the outrageous, visually stupendous MONTAGE VIDEO LGG that I have come to love!!! The montage stuff is electrifying and brings a level of conceptual art to her performance AND to music that is new and fresh ... this is pure Las Vegas dance girls (but again I love it ... so don't beat me on the head)!!!!

The robotic dress is a new thing but its form and presentation is pure Christian Iconography from the illuminated manuscripts of the middle ages. The headress is practically identical with the haloes around the heads of the traditional representations of saints and virgins. And the wings are unadulterad angelic wings. To me the clearest clue that this was the intention was the way the spotlight was on her head and her pose at the start of the performance. The white color of the dress is also a clue. So the dress may be robotic but it is also has a deep theological symbolism and may be even construed as a claim of divinity.

I love her and think she is pure genius. No one would have taken notice had she not done all the costumes and now she has everyone's interest. I do think she is talented more than the costumes and also hope that she realizes it and starts doing songs without them. It looks like she loves Elton John and patterned her style on him but she has everyone's attention now--she can if she wants, give up the garb.

She is attractive so she doesn't need to hide behind the extravagant stage costumes. I love that she plays piano. I heard she grew up playing classical so she is the real deal.

I didn't know she grew up playing classical, but I am not surprised. She's a genuine musician. I was impressed by her piano playing during this performance.

She does write most of her own songs and is an extremely talented musician. I'm from an older generation and I think she has real talent.

The costumes, for me, are ok, but they are not what set her apart, it's her talent that does. I expect to see her around for a long time. I agree with you----she is the real deal.
