Bill Brady A 'Compassionate Conservative,' He Says (VIDEO)

Bill Brady, Republican candidate for Illinois governor described himself as a "compassionate conservative" on ABC Chicago's morning news show Monday morning.

The answer was in response to questions about his positions on social issues, positions that incumbent Governor Pat Quinn's campaign described as "extreme right wing." These compassionate views include support for a ban on abortions, even in cases of rape and incest, a ban on gay marriage and civil unions and a bill allowing the mass euthanasia of pets.

When asked if Quinn was an extreme liberal, Brady stuck to budget issues, saying that Quinn's plan to raise taxes is "far off, and in the wrong direction."

Brady's criticisms of Gov. Quinn's proposed tax increase has been a common theme in the early stage of his campaign. His own budget proposals include a proposed an indiscriminate 10 percent across-the-board spending cut, which even members of his own party disagree with. He has also said that you can't "cut your way out" of a hole like the one facing Illinois, but didn't offer much by way of alternatives.
