'Robin Hood' Gambler Wins Money In Vegas, Gives It All To Those In Need

Casino Chips

First Posted: 5/11/10 Updated: 5/25/11

A self-made blackjack player who calls himself RobinHood702 (the 702 comes from Las Vegas' area code), finds those in need and wins hundreds of thousands of dollars at casinos, just for them.

At RobinHood702.com, people can upload a video of themselves explaining why they need money. Robin Hood 702, who wishes to remain anonymous, chooses those he deems worthy, flies them out to Vegas, then goes to work.

In a report from FOX News, Megan and Kurt Kegler are informed that the Vegas Robin Hood is going to go to work for them. The Kegler's young daughter Madison has a brain tumor, and attempting to keep up with her medical bills have put them $34,000 in debt. They work opposite shifts at a Detroit area Target to help pay the bills.

Robin Hood 702 sent a stretch limo to take them to the airport, put them on a plane -- where they flew first class -- to Vegas, and set them up in a deluxe suite at the Palazzo hotel. Though there were some tense moments, he won more than enough to help cover their expenses. Watch the look on the Kegler's faces as they're presented $35,000 in $100 casino chips.

Yes, but by telling others and thereby forfeiting any heavenly benefit, he or she is actually making a bigger sacrifice than the one who does it believing another reward in heaven will compensate them.

Highly suspect. Fox news is involved...

More like St Francis than Robin Hood, unless he stole from the rich.

He gave them chips, which have to be cashed in at a cage in the casino. This transaction. then, is reported to the IRS and the IRS takes their share right off the top, or gives them a tax receipt which allows them to pay the tax on $35,000 on their next income tax filing. Wasn't there a better way?

What this guy did is great.
Calling him a Robin Hood is not.

If he stormed into a casino and robbed it, that Robin Hood.

Robin Hood, of legend anyway, 'stole' from the rich only in the sense that he took back some of their legally stolen money that the peasants could really use back. It was a roar against the arrogant and kleptocratic aristocracy of the era.

I wish some clever bastard would figure out how to scam the ever-loving hell out of the robber barons of OUR day and give the money to the poor. Honestly, they - the wealthy - are doing it again, taking vastly more than their due from any economy. They have devalued labor today exactly as they did in merry olde England, and inflated investment income (aristocratic wealth) in a similar manner.

I don't know if revolutions are possible anymore - and they are always horrific - but that's the only thing that has worked in the past.

It appears that this guy, unlike our government, is taking the time to distinguish between those in "need" and those in "want". And that's important because the needy are a mixture of victims and bums. The former find themselves destitute through circumstances over which they have no control. The latter are poor because of their own self-indulgence, irresponsibility and/or laziness. Government programs regard this distinction as irrelevant basing aid solely on income. But by offering support in this way, government programs squander resources on the undeserving while leaving the true victims with a few food stamps, Medicaid benefits and a cash-for-clunkers program but without sufficient resources to regain their self-sufficiency.

If the government wants to demonstrate a genuine commitment to helping the VICTIMS in our society, they need to focus on moving the virtuous toward self-sufficiency while allowing the slothful to reap what they've sown. That requires distinguishing between the worthy poor and the bums.

Life can teach powerful lessons, but not when our compassion moves us to skew the consequences. Making the poor more comfortable actually encourages poverty, as our welfare system so aptly demonstrated prior to its reform. Government programs should be giving worthy people a true hand-up rather than a ALL poor people a hand-out.

It does not such thing, and only selfish, mean-spirited despiser of the downtrodden think that they are hurting somebody by helping them. When I was down on my luck 19 years ago, I had to get food stamps and for my child, medicaid. Because I was able to feed my child, myself and my wife, and not worry about my baby seeing a doctor when needed, I was able to focus on bettering myself. I've since paid back into the system a hundred thousand times the money that was given to me in food stamps, and I'm one of millions and millions of people who've done that. I'm sick to death of hearing from jerks who think that helping poor people keeps them poor. Its a vicious, evil, selfish, un-Christian position and outright lie.

You must not have read his comment very closely.

Quite obviously, you are one of the people whom he referred to as virtuous, and simply down on his luck by way of uncontrollable circumstances. You are one of the people who deserved to be helped. He was saying that there are many out there who are simply in the situation because of their own doing, people who are and will be perpetually downtrodden because their own misguided actions. Those people need to be left alone in order to learn a lesson for themselves.

Please provide evidence for your contention that there are a significant number of "bums" being supported by the government. Please state how exactly you would determine whether someone would be considered a bum and how they would be considered virtuous. The government already includes measures to encourage people to be self sufficient - e.g. to get G.R. you have to attend a jobs class and provide evidence of job seeking. They also generally only give out G.R. for 9 months out of the year to encourage job seeking. I believe unemployment benefit has similar measures in place. To receive SSDI or SSI you have to provide evidence of your disability and submit to medical examinations. Many non-profits are also doing work to move people towards self-sufficiency. Many have educational vocational and life skills courses for the underskilled and provide vital mental health and recovery services. I work in downtown LA with some of the poorest people there are and it is not pretty, trust me.

When oh when will I stop paying for socialist programs I never use, like the fire department, or the state parks I never visit, or any of those other social programs like state colleges I never got to use. I mean, heck, I don't use it, why should you steal MY money to pay for these things just to benefit you? What kind of socialist are YOU, tina?

In that case, you're a socialist because you pay the government taxes which support social programs.

This is the best thing I've read all week. I completely envy Robinhood. He must feel so awesome doing this. I will find my own way to do this, too.

This is such a publicity stunt by Vegas. If this guy was SO good at Black Jack or any other game the Casinos would blacklist him out.
