Miss England To Cut Swimsuit Competition, Add Sports Challenge

Swimsuit

Miss England 2009 Katrina Hodge has convinced judges to cut the swimsuit competition to add in a sports challenge, the Telegraph UK reports. Hodge, known as "Combat Barbie," joined the army when she was 16 and served in Iraq. But Hodge thinks the bikini battlefield might be scarier for some.

"I think it's nerve-racking enough for girls to get up on a stage and speak, let alone appear in a swimsuit," she said. She plans to direct the pageant's new sports component.

Nobody watches or cares about beauty contests in the UK for at least 25 years. Most British people now find them cheesy and parochial and 70s. Like Boil-in-The-Bag cod steaks or Benny Fecking Hill.

As opportunities go, beauty contests do not open any doors. We don't need scholarships to attend University. And if a bloke wants to see some flesh, then yer average lad mags are pretty revealing and you can see topless chicks in a National Newspaper. Page 3 girls get more coverage (ironically).

If there was a contest for "Who is the most physically orange" - then that would be a new spin on things. Boy - do they love their fake tan.

So Pack on those extra carbs girls! It will be about who is strongest not who is best looking. Don't worry. When you get to international competition, they will most likely adopt the Birka.

Or you could just scrap the whole thing. That's what I'd do.

The winner will still have to parade around in swimwear for the Miss World competition. It is unfair to send girls out unprepared. If its a sports based beauty pageant you want, enter Miss Fitness.

its a beauty contest, not a sports match

once again fun falls victim to political correctness

the only consolation is that the ratings will now plummet

Why take away the swimsuit competition? It's important.

it the thin end of the wedge - next they'll be demanding intelligible answers!

Where will it all end?

You mean like this?...

“I personally believe, that U.S. Americans,
are unable to do so,
because uh,
some, people out there, in our nation don’t have maps.
and uh…
I believe that our education like such as in South Africa,
and the Iraq,
everywhere like such as…
and, I believe they should uh,
our education over here,
in the U.S. should help the U.S.
or should help South Africa,
and should help the Iraq and Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future,
for us.â€

Its England, so its probably not a big loss...the event might as well be on by the Westminster Kennel Club.

Having travelled extensively through the USA I can assure you that you do indeed have the top dogs.

We, however seem to have most of the top models.

It feels like most models nowadays are from Brazil. And yes, People of Walmart is pretty hysterical (this is coming from a proud American).

You can exchange the swimsuit portion for some kind of sport portion but it's still a vapid beauty contest, to pretend that it means anything more is silly.
Personally, I think the entire thing; the talent portion, the interview, etc., should be conducted while in a swimsuit. It won't make it any more or less ridiculous.

Unless it is like, nude wrestling, who is going to watch, without there being a bikini show.

No swim suit contest, there go the ratings, if they have not dropped as low as they can go already. Frankly, I don't care to see non-professional sports competitions, men or women. These contests originated back when home economics was considered a major in school. Frankly they demean women and at best have proven, at least in America, that having a brain hidden inside a well posed body does nothing at all to indicate intellect.

I don't think it's demeaning, its silly but can give non academic girls opportunities to capitalise on their best talent - their looks. One of my friends from school got a modelling contract from the exposure of being in Miss Ireland a few years back (she didn't win it!), she's now happily married to a millionaire.

All she ever wanted was to have kids (which she could raise herself) and a nice house and husband. Now she has that. Not everybody wants an academic career, nobody wants to slave at a Mcjob for fifty years. Theres nothing wrong with taking advantage of your looks to get what you do want and avoid what you don't.

Ok, best course, let every gal out there decide on their own what is demeaning or not. I see your point.
