Sam Worthington's $20 Oscar Shoes Sold Out At Payless

First Posted: 05/15/10 06:12 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 04:50 PM ET

"Avator" actor Sam Worthington made a subtle style statement on the Oscars red carpet, sporting a Brioni tux with Payless shoes. He told the AP his budget shoes were "comfortable, and the ones they gave me made me look like a goblin." Although Worthington didn't give specifics on the make or model, a Payless rep told Footwear News that Worthington wore the Dexter Pembroke:

Ideal for the office or that special event, this classic Dexter oxford features a burnished faux leather upper, a sleek round toe, genuine leather and breathable Drylex lining and a padded insole for comfort. Leather and manmade materials.

The shoe is already sold out in most sizes. Coincidence? Or new trend?

Love it. Just like a man to have the sentiment, "I'd rather be home with my dog, sofa and beer watching this gig and if I can't at least my shoes should feel like my sofa."

I beg to differ, but those are NOT the Dexter Pembroke. And here's the visual proof. Those look more like some kind of clunky boot. Look at the eyelets. The width of the laces, and the thick toe. They aren't the Pembroke, which frankly would have looked 100x times better. Right? Check out the visual evidence.
