Texas Republican Gohmert: Demons Have Invaded The Capital

Gohmert

Speaking shortly after he riled up a crowd at Tuesday's Tea Party protest, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tex.) declared that "demons" - yes, demons - have invaded the capital (and likely the souls of Democrats), forcing lawmakers to mislead the public about the content of the health care bill.

"Well it would take a demon to be this dishonest about a bill," the Texas Republican told the Huffington Post. "If they would just read the bill, they would see what they are saying is dishonest."

Asked to expand a bit more on what he meant, Gohmert stepped back a bit from a literal interpretation, though still floating the possibility that Democrats were possessed. "Well, somebody is making people be dishonest and it is a play on words, too," he said.

Moments earlier, the congressman energized an audience in the hundreds who had come to hear him and others protest the possibility of health care's passage. Gohmert insisted that the bill the House was set to consider would appropriate $700 million for abortions -- defying the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits federal money going to such a procedure.

"I brought an abortion to show you today," he said, hosting a copy of the health care bill in his right hand. The crowd responded with a chant of "Abort the bill!"

And then, out of nowhere, Gohmert began spreading the word that underworld spirits were lurking around the Capitol building behind him.

"There's a whole lot of demon going on," he said. "There are a lot of demons around here apparently."

Texas really needs to be its own country. Seriously. Secede already. Please.

I will listen to fools like Gohmert when they stop being hypocrites and give up their taxpayer funded healthcare and deal with the insurance companies like the rest of us.

A low turn out for the tea baggers? What, Fox couldn't run some old footage and claim there were millions attending?

They couldn't. The realized that Democrats understand PhotoShop, probably better than they do. It's funny to me, how nobody has to doctor a photo to downplay the numbers that show up at these rallies. There's no need to.

You are all correct. I didn't use spell check and for that I am very sorry. But it is not the government’s job to control health care or supply it to thirty million people. Let’s see, why has health care gone up so much over the past thirty years has. Twenty million criminal aliens and their ten million anchor children. (welfare, social services and education for all) Next a welfare lower class that also puts a major burden on our health care and education system. (Free for all) How do you think these people impact our criminal justice system? And the American taxpayers get to pay for it all. I have never asked anyone to provide free services for myself or my family. Why is it that you all think that it’s ok to tax all hard working, taxpaying Americans for services that you want? (Get a job or two and pay for services yourself)
Our government does not produce jobs, corporations and small businesses do. All revenue is created in the private sector, government then steals (Taxes) as much as they can to fund itself and its programs. Our government funds taxpayer blocks with services as a bribe for voting majorities to control our country. This is how Democrats and some Republicans obtain power. Higher taxes and spending do not stimulate the economy, the opposite is true. Remember the Clintons, they rode the Reagan economic wave and claimed credit for it. The Republican majority kept their spending in check.

"The Republican majority kept their spending in check."

HA! So I guess you were on some other planet when Clinton/Gore oversaw the largest economic expansion in history, turned deficits into surpluses, then Bush/Cheney and your beloved pub majority turned those record surpluses that could have paid off the national debt AND paid for single-payer health care into record deficits that doubled the national debt. FACT: Reagan/Bush TRIPLED our National Debt and Bush/Cheney DOUBLED it.

The Clintons rode the Reagan economic wave? The Republicans kept their spending in check? If I remember correctly, there was a recession going on in 1992 and the government was running huge deficits.

As for the rest, what a perfect world it would be if there were no poor Americans, or immigrants or any of that other nastiness clouding your bright shiny world. Personally, I see it as my obligation to pay taxes to help those less fortunate than I am. Apparently, you are of a different opinion. I hope you never find yourself in a position where your income is cut off or you suddenly don't have health insurance ....

I wish this type of stuff would be called out by the mainstream media. We are one step away from legislative sessions having special set asides for speaking in tongues.

Interestingly, the fourth definition given "demon" by Webster's Dictionary is "4. a person who has great energy or skill." Gohmert is acknowledging the great energy and skill of the Democrats! Doncha just love it?

I think tea-baggers go tired of what they saw on the TV when they were at these protests which didn't make any sense to even the senseless.

LOL - in terms of PR and other dollars it probably cost the Republicans thousands of dollars a head for that crummy turnout.

On the other hand, there were lots of visuals throughout the media. Contrast that with the early 2000's. When hundreds of thousands of people jammed the same area protesting Iraq, there was little if any coverage.
