Last week, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly told members of the City Council that the NYPD's uniform head count will drop to 32,817 by June 2011 if city budget cuts go through as proposed.
"That is 8,047 police officers below the peak headcount of 40,864 in October 2000," Kelly said in his testimony before the Council's Finance and Public Safety committees
