Ummmm, you think?! The government subsidized lunches served is crap. And no that is not Obama's fault before someone hop on the partisan bandwagon. This clock has been broken for years

In retrospect, maybe my school lunch forty years ago wasn't so bad. I always brought a sack lunch to same money. It usually consisted of a bologna sandwich, banana, and an oatmeal cookie.

Yep, a program backed by the USDA, under the national school lunch program. The program provides loose guidelines to states that outsource food management to food service companies that are only looking to make a buck. Stronger guidelines, enforcing labeling laws and better food sources would go a long way to change this program.

the mess they serve is appalling. Noone needs meat and gravy and potatoes for lunch (or any meal).
What happened to turkey on real whole grain bread and cut fruit??

The crap they serve kids is appalling: Pizza (breakfast and lunch), hot dogs followed by corn dogs, grilled cheese multiple days a week, burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, fried "shrimp" sandwiches, etc. It's why I send my kid with a lunch, not that he would eat everything they serve anyway since he's so picky.

Not to mention that most of it has the flavor of cardboard. The food was so nasty when I was in school most days that it was near in enedible causing us to buy whatever was handy to replace it. That tended to be candy or at least junk from the corner store like hot pockets and fried burritoes.

Not to mention that thanks to NCLB, there's been a complete de-emphasis on PE and recess.
