World Water Day 2010 is recognized globally today, March 22, 2010, raising awareness about clean water and the importance of preserving and distributing it.

According to the World Water Day Web site:

The international observance of World Water Day is an initiative that grew out of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro.

World Water Day 2010 events are being held internationally and a map displaying the most prominent of these events can be found here.

Online networks are also buzzing about the day and the hashtag is #worldwaterday on Twitter.
