Cokie Roberts: Glenn Beck A 'Terrorist'

Cokie Roberts devoted her syndicated column (which she writes with husband Steve) to the subject of Glenn Beck, who she writes is "worse than a clown" and "more like a terrorist."

Roberts describes a recent panel Steve appeared on in which an audience member compared Obama's health insurance reform plan to fascism.

"We don't know what the beefy guy reads or to whom he listens, but we would bet he's a disciple of Glenn Beck," she wrote. "The popular author and broadcaster who has turned nonstop name-calling into an art form is a big fan of the 'F-word.'"

Roberts writes that "Beck has made millions spewing such incendiary language, but in the process he is corrupting the very essence of democracy."

Beck has famously referred to himself as a "rodeo clown," but Roberts says that does not go far enough:

Actually, Beck is worse than a clown. He's more like a terrorist who believes he has discovered the One True Faith, and condemns everyone else as a heretic. And that makes him something else as well -- a traitor to the American values he professes so loudly to defend.

A Fox News spokesperson has responded, asking TVNewser, "Isn't Cokie best known for lying to her viewers?" That is a reference to a 1994 incident in which Roberts spoke in front of a green screen pretending to be at the Capitol.
