Extra Security For Members Of Congress After Activist, Tea Party Threats

First Posted: 05/24/10 06:12 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 04:55 PM ET

Since health care reform passed Congress on Sunday night, a series of angry -- and sometimes criminal -- reactions have been reported. We're monitoring the reports and have compiled several in the list below. Take a look.

Boehner Addresses Threats
1 of 20
GOP House Minority Leader John Boehner addressed the recent spate of aggressive threats on Thursday at a press conference, where he repeated much of the same rhetoric that he had put out in an earlier written release:

"I know many Americans are angry over this health care bill, and that Washington Democrats just aren't listening. But, as I've said, violence and threats are unacceptable. That's not the American way. We need to take that anger and channel it into positive change. Call your Congressman, go out and register people to vote, go volunteer on a political campaign, make your voice heard - but let's do it the right way."

Conservatives rile their people up with emotions and lies,

then some nut job comes out of the wood work and kill people.

The conservative like chaos, fear and ignorance.

But they want to deny that making thoughts of assassination

This is sedition.

no doubt.

It is getting blown out of proportion! What they should do is turn this stuff over to the Authorities and quit complaining about this! The congress says this happens all the time! Some you have to worry about and some you don't!
02:18 PM on 03/27/2010
you don't think sedition, and calls for assassination and treason are a big deal?

no of course not, conservatives WANT the republic to Fall, so the monarchies of the rich and powerful and once again lord over the serfs suffering in the dark ages.

Teabagger Terry, and Conservative Connie heard about a tea party rally over the FCC regulated News channel and e-mailed each other their plans to travel to Washington DC over the internet(made possible by the public University of Illinois) They travel over public roads to Washington DC made secure by hundreds of police officers, and FBI agents. The night before their rally they check into a hotel made safe because it’s regulated by the state and city for proper building codes, fire exits, and elevators. The go out to dinner knowing any restaurant they choose will serve them a safe healthy meal because government health inspectors monitor the restaurant. In the morning they get up and ride on the public Metra to the National Mall maintained by the National Park system.

At the Capitol they are encouraged by their favorite legislators to try and stop legislation they disagree with. They shout cries for less government and government isn’t the answer, as is their right. They know their families are safe back home because their government maintains a military presence in hundreds of countries and is organized and coordinated by over 23,000 government employees at the Pentagon.

After getting thirsty from their shouting they each get a drink of water from a public drinking fountain.

Reenergized they begin to shout out cries of self-reliance, no more handouts or entitlements and get your government hands off my Medicare, a government run insurance program.

So you can't figure it out yourself?

Self-reliant Ron uses government services left and right. Government doesn't work William counts on government everday to work properly for him and teabagger Terry is totally misinformed about how much all those things they rely on and count on cost. End of story.

Same old story, one party tries and one party claims it is THEY who are the victims, or isolated incident, or both sides do it etc. There is an obvious disproportionate amount of, "hate condoning" going on. I guess this party has nothing else to offer and is being rightfully investigated by the FBI! What we have here folks are home bred, "indoctrinated terrorists" FIX news, Morning Joke, and the house members of the GOP and minority leader all share the blame! As recently demonstrated, these are not adults or Americans!

GOPers threatened - Divert attention. Stupak was interviewed and he said that at the time of the vote on Sunday, the Gopers were actually up on the second floor - showing pictures & in particular one of Polosi and they were given "throat cut" sign and encouraging the mob below to continue cheering - inciting them to more and more. Check that out - think it was on Rick/CNN today. Wasn't he a cop before.

Days later - suddenly all those GOPers are telling about "their" threats received. Doesn't someone smell a rat? Solution. FBI investigates everyone - does interviews - reminders Gopers that it is a crime to lie to the FBI - suddenly you hear -"Oh gee" maybe you misunderstood. We have caught out the Cdn PM in a similar game - but in our case - he just shuts down parliament.

Some might quip, "Well if the politicians kill each other off .. " , but that would be wrong. I'll leave that line up to Rush.

Those on the right can make some bizarre claims when they try to avoid linkage to their rightist ideological forerunners in the 20th century. Somebody brought up the totally irrelevant issue of the internment of Americans of Japanese ancestry during WWII. Those on the right here on this site seem to be doing that more and more often. They act as though FDR did this all on his lonesome without any support. In fact, the internment was enormously popular, especially on the west coast. Furthermore, those who bring up FDR conveniently ignore hardcore rightist Michelle M@lkin's rabblerousing book In Defense of Internment. If it was bad for FDR to practice internment, then it must logically be bad for M@lkin to support that internment and to advocate for the same sort of thing today. Honesty and decency are basically absent from the current American right, and the sneering comments from rightists here demonstrate that.

It's seems the police report said the investigation showed the the bullet was shot into the air

A preliminary investigation shows that a bullet was fired into the air and struck the window in a downward direction, landing on the floor about a foot from the window. The round struck with enough force to break the windowpane but did not penetrate the window blinds. There was no other damage to the room, which is used occasionally for meetings by the congressman.

What deception., Conservative WANT chaos, they want the republic to fall so they can replace it with a plutocracy. They bankrupt the gov for their cronies when in power, and then do everything they can to destroy it when not.

Truly this is organized treason.

The Conservative, the republics in particular, and levying war against the republic.

censure Palin, Limberger, and Dreck.

arrest them for sedition or treason if someone dies,

if they will not stop the calls for violence however cute they think talking about cleaning their guns etcc.

Any honest court, would find them guilty and see through the obvious deceptions.

All political violence comes from the left SDS, enviromental wacko's, Violent anti-war protesters, illegal immigration rallies that turn violent, bombing of Capitol and Pentegon by Obama friend Bill Ayers and on and on. HeII, Conservatives never go out and protest until the Tea Parties this year. And 18% of them are Democrats. All violent protest's in this country the last 40 years have been by left wing loons.

According to reports, a caller told a staffer "better hope I don't run into you in a dark alley with a knife, a club or a gun."

Wow there's a brave one for you. As all cowards, let's resort to violence. And, let's do it either as a mob or in a dark alley so I can sneak off and get away with it.
02:20 PM on 03/25/2010
One of those people has already misrepresented such threats as "just a little push back".

cutting through the bull...

who won healthcare... who lost... and who's 'angry' about it?
01:48 PM on 03/25/2010
again, my point of how it all amounts to a sporting event, with each side cheering and jeering, is proved.

I mean won? is that what politics are? people on the left will talk about how the R's are all voting no on everything, yet the ratcheting up of the tension continues on both sides. When we start talking about one side winning and one side losing, we will only fracture the country more.

The R's will get a big victory in Nov, and then both sides will flip, and then everyone will use each others bad behavior for justification. The R's will start using reconciliation, the Dems will protest (because it is baloney), the R's will call them out of bounds (even though what they will be doing is appalling), and so forth. I don't think anyone can call this country ungovernable when they are talking winning and losing....

there were more votes on one side than the other side. it WAS a competition. one side DID win the vote. one side DID lose the vote. it is... what it is...

The majority of the American people, thats who. Read the link. Dems will lose big in November.

1) if they lose, they lose. Healthcare is here to stay.
2) the USA Today poll showed an immediate jump to 49-40 IN SUPPORT as soon as the bill passed... now what?

3) what does this have to do with WHO is inciting violence. ?

This all goes back to the tendency of people, when watching tv, to extrapolate a particular to a general.

Its my classic "sportscenter" criticism. I know a lot of guys who watch a bunch of sportscenter and think that they understand sports because they see highlights and scores. They will make playoff predictions and then when they are wrong, will fundamentally misunderstand why they were off. The only way one can truly understand how good teams are is to watch their full games. So in basketball, for instance, a team that has a lot of dunkers will instantly be assumed as a good team, whereas a team with good defense (and hence less spectacular highlights) will fly under the radar more (Most people thought the cavs were going to win the championship last year)
In this case, all MSNBC needs to do is find one guy in the crowd who spouts racism and catch it on tape. As soon as you've done that (and this controversy is proof), you will have branded the whole crowd as racist. Nevermind the decent folks who got left on the cutting room floor, as soon as you find one crazy in a crowd, you can brand the whole crowd.

Its insulting to those of us whose allegiance isn't to party but to truth (how many of you liked being called unpatriotic for protesting an illegal war in Iraq, based on a lie)

just one question.

how many "instances" are to be 'caught' before it is classified as a pattern.
