ProFootballTalk:

At the Scouting Combine, the Wonderlic exam is administered to players in groups. The 12-minute test is preceded by some brief instructions and comments from the person administering the test.

Per a league source, after the person administering the test to Tebow's group had finished, Tebow made a request that the players bow their heads in prayer before taking the 50-question exam.

I really don't see how him saying "God Bless", or him making the request (ask for something in a polite and/or formal manner) that they bow their heads in prayer (meaning allowing him to pray for them) before they were about to take a test, is imposing his religion on others? He didn't tell them that they need to convert to Christianity; in fact, I'm not sure I have ever heard him tell anyone too. If you are not a Christian, than please explain to me what the difference is between someone saying "Good Luck" before you take a test, and someone asking if they can pray for you to do well on it?

Given his miserable chances of scoring well on the Wonderlic I suspect he truly believed a mass prayer was necessary.

There is nothing wrong with being a very religious person, but when you try to impose your beliefs on others, you are just plain asking for abuse. If Tebow wants to be taken seriously, he should follow the example of Kurt Warner. Warner despite being a devout Christian has never tried to impose his beliefs on anyone in his locker room, nor has he ever engaged in any public ultra religious antics. He has shown the strength of his belief by engaging in numerous charity projects, not leading the Cardinals in prayer before the start of the Super Bowl. Tebow is a smart kid. He will learn to adapt.

Tebow was home schooled. Those kids are not smart. They are mostly taught out of the Bible and what little they need to pass the test to get their diploma.
08:49 PM on 03/24/2010
Home schooled kids, just like kids who go to regular school, are as smart as their teachers. I know several parents who home schooled their kids -- not for religious reasons, but because the public schools were a nightmare. And these kids are incredibly smart! Way more advanced then other kids their age.

Considering there are home schooled kids I know who got accepted to some of the top 85 Academic schools in the nation. Your statement is fallacious and erroneous.

does God hate me for laughing at this?

That kind of naiveté will be quashed soon enough. He'll take a couple of NFL hits, and find a new application for holy names. Amen indeed.

Bet he went home and told his mom about the mean boy who let him know he didn't like TT imposing his religious beliefs on the entire group. And who knows this episode of TT's life could very well be featured at next year's Super Bowl in a documentary entitle, St. TT's Efforts to Convert the Heathens.

What confuses me is how someone who is so influenced by the Bible is so committed to making his living engaged in an activity so violent and so rife with fornicators...and that provides such fuel for the gambling and alcohol industries...and in which people constantly swear and in which he is required to work on Sundays. Apparently those things are not an affront to his religious beliefs and holier-than-thou moral convictions.

Great post. I would love to hear what Tebow would have to say about playing a sport that is surrounded by and enabling "sin."

You are to work 6 days a week. God never said the Sabbath was Sunday. The Jews Sabbath is Saturday. Now Tebow's Sabbath will be Tuesday.

I enjoyed this. To be fair, it was a bit harsh.. but they need to set an example quickly that this isn't conservative christian high school football huddle up time. It was disruptive and self-righteous for Tebow to request that. Maybe it was just a cover to give him a sad excuse knowing that he was going to do so terribly on the test. Spend more time studying worthwhile things rather than the names of who begot who.

That being said, he is entitled to his religion, and there are many others in the NFL who are outwardly Christian without being so pompous. Also, religious groups can do a lot of good when they put dogma away and focus on truly helping their fellow man. It can be a great source of pride and inspiration for athletes and anyone trying to be the best at what they do.

Keep it to yourself Tebow.. We already saw the "we want to own the rights of women" commercial(which strangely wasn't as aggravating as I thought it would be), so it will be a long agonizing experience with him now.

Otherwise, it always make me think of the "smile, your mother was pro-life" bumper stickers.. Well, my mom is vehemently pro-choice and has 9 children. Ah.. bumper stickers.. miniature business cards that let me quickly know I would probably not ever want to socialize with the person driving the car :)

Is Tim Tebow going to take a vow of poverty and donate his NFL salary to the needy, too?

Classy. Did he spit on him, too? I think 90% of the people who make a big deal about being moral because of their religion are complete phonies, but 10% are the real deal. It looks like Tebow's in that 10%. As an atheist, I can respect people like him.

Skippy,

This isn't an indictment of Tebow's beliefs or authenticity, it's a challenge to his audacity and arrogance in which he imparts his spiritual/religious beliefs on others who might not share his belief, expression or practice there of.

If there is a denominational or sectarian Christian, Jew or Muslim in Tebow's midst, is it fair or appropriate for him to demand their participation?
