Highest Paid Congressional Staffers: Who's Making Six Figures?

Making a six-figure salary as a House staffer is no longer a rarity. In fact, in 2009 nearly 2,000 of the approximately 10,000 total staffers cleared $100,000, according to a Politico report of salary data compiled by the Web site, Legistorm.

Politico reported that 43 House staffers were paid $172,500 for the year -- the maximum salary allowed. (Keep in mind, the starting salary for a rank-and-file congressman is $174,000).

Though many entry-level House staff positions start at under $30,000 a year, and many staffers make just about that, Politico's analysis of the Legistorm data shows an increasing number of employees nearing the top-level salary.
