Big Sur is the region of central California where the Santa Lucia Mountains rise out of the Pacific Ocean. The 80ft tall McWay Falls is one of the most recognized areas of Big Sur, and one of the few waterfalls that pours directly into the Pacific.

Watching this pics is nostalgic .... I miss my Home Country ...... haven't been to the beach in years ... what's amusing & sad at the same time I reside in a coastline state (Mia, FL).

p.s ... wonder how many people as a percentage in the US have ever been to a beach ... I'm sure it's
not more than 20%

It may not be the most scenic - but as far as sand goes, can't beat Siesta Key in Sarasota FL. Stays cool on hot days, and feels JUST like baby powder - about as white, too. And best of all, easy (and cheap) for a family to vacation there! Great beach in terms of one you could visit on a modest budget.

The Florida Panhandle, specifically the Beaches of South Walton are absolutely amazing and a great place for family vacations. More info on http://www.BeautifulBeach.com

I've been to Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsundays. They are accessible only by boat or helicopter -- the white sand is due to a silica bed 2 miles off shore -- the waves churn up a white powdery sand that is second to none.

Great shot with the swirls of sand in the blue water -- this should be #1 for sure!! Vote, people!!

Voted! It's AMAZING! Have been blessed enough to visit quite a few of the beaches featured on the slide but this one is truly outstanding!

When will the coffee table version of this be available? :) Thanks for putting this together (especially for identifying the beaches for my mental note of all the places I want to see.)

I humbly suggest the Caramoan Islands in the Philippines. So pristine it was used as the location of Survivor France, Survivor Israel, Argentina & Serbia.

This pic makes me want to run to the airport and catch a flight to Bermuda.

So happy to see that my pic of Elbow Beach in Bermuda has come in at #3. I'd say #1, but I am biased (lol)

Hawaii no ka oi! We have the best beaches.

I just wish there were laws around the world to prevent people from building right on them.

When the hurricanes or inevitable tsunami comes, karma will out for people building on the beach.

Has anyone vacationed in Goa on the southwestern coast of India? The beaches there are lush, tropical and unspoiled yet offer first class accommodations at astoundingly inexpensive rates (it's India, after all). The island of Sri Lanka off the southern coast of India is another secret paradise, as long as you don't mind wild elephants swimming in the surf and mongooses chowing down on king cobras in the bushes.

Beaches are beautiful because the are not despoiled and overused. I'll keep my favorites to myself.

My thoughts exactly!
