Anna Paquin: I'm Bisexual (VIDEO)

Anna Paquin announced that she is bisexual while taping a public service announcement for the True Colors Fund, an advocacy group dedicated to LGBT equality.

"I'm Anna Paquin. I'm bisexual, and I give a damn," she says into the camera.

The theme of the campaign is "Give a Damn" and other celebrities participating include Elton John, Whoopi Goldberg, Cynthia Nixon, Sharon and Kelly Osbourne, Kim Kardashian, Clay Aiken, and Wanda Sykes.

Anna and her 'True Blood' costar Stephen Moyer announced their engagement in August.

For generation­s gay people stayed quiet and in the closet and they routinely were fired from jobs, beaten in the streets, kicked out of families and marginaliz­ed by society. Gay people eventually realized their silence was creating an environmen­t for this kind of brutalizat­ion and isolation. And ever since gay people started coming out in greater number homophobic bullies lost some of their power. Furthermor­e, you seek to reduce gay people to be about "private sexual attraction­s." But gay people's romantic relationsh­ips are no more (or less) about sex than straight people's romantic relationsh­ips.

In addition, you said "I don't know why I would care to tell anyone my business" but the truth is every time you introduced your girlfriend to your friends or family or took her anywhere you were in fact telling people "your business" but because you date women you never felt burdened by that revelation­. And the reason you never felt burdened by the revelation that you date woman is that there is no societal threat for sharing this informatio­n.

So the real question is why do you feel the need to mock people who are trying to make other people's lives better?
