Republican April Fools' Day Ad Takes Aim At Democrats' 'Rainbows And Unicorns'

First Posted: 06/01/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:00 PM ET

In a new Web ad just in time for April Fool's Day, the National Republican Senatorial Committee heaped faux praise on an unlikely target: President Barack Obama. And they threw in a flying unicorn, butterfly and rainbow too.

"He kept all his promises, unemployment is at -39 percent, our deficit is no more and global warming has been solved by replacing cars with low-emission unicorns powered by the renewable energy of rainbows," the narrator says over what me must say is a cheesy soundtrack. "Our great leader, Barack Obama, has changed the world."

After facetiously praising health care reform, the ad calls Obama "truly the greatest President ever." Then, the Republican ad gets serious.

"Promise after promise broken," the announcer says. "Don't be fooled by Obama and the Democrats in Congress, hold them accountable."

It takes a lot of effort the strip a patsy of his change. Won't you help?

Click any and all Republican oriented ads on HP and elsewhere. Your selfless act of clicking on their ads may annoy you, disgust you, and even enrage you but your inflamed passions will cool when you realize that each click costs the GOP, and pays HP. The GOP seems to specialize in pornography and casting aspersions on the president and democrats. It obviously does not bother their supporters to be so callous and shallow, so they spend their time and donors money to enjoy sex clubs and mockery.

If you play the ad backwards, you can hear a voice say "Call Mikey the Steele, he knows what you like..."

You know there is a unicorn on the British coat of arms? We have it hanging on the wall behind the judge of every court room in Australia, it's really hard not to laugh? I have read that the British coat of arms like most things ancient, comes from the astrological, its based on the constellations of Leo (the lion) and Monocross (the unicorn) that is divided by the sextant?Look up precession of the equinoxes, one of the sites has it on it?
They always say the truth is stranger than fiction!

It's amazing nothing this president has done or try to do is socialist,no rights have been lost. These same folks try to ignore the fact that a federal judge just ruled George Bush illegally wiretapped Americans. Both that crook and water-boarder in chief Cheney are lucky he did not have the justice department go after them.

All the protest is quite simple set up by big money and lobbyists to keep the status quo wherein the rich get richer and all the breaks and the middle class get the left overs. The plain and simple facts President Obama is changing that and the well to do selfish bast***s are p***ed.Tough T****ies get used to it and I hope he wins a second term so the gains for the middle class will be irreversible and permanent.

Do you hear us now.....no more tax breaks for the rich....period!!!!!!!

Well Deschris, Obama and his cronies are sprouting off about a redistribution of the wealth quit often as of late. After the health care bill passed ,the bill was actually touted as such by several Democrats. That seems like a march to Socialism to many people.
I am more inclined to hope the damage Obama does to the US. is not irreversible, before he gets tossed out on his can in 2012.
By the way ,I love that add. Thanks HP for putting it up here!

I'm sorry that you want the poor to die on emergency room floors because they can't afford healthcare insurance.

So many people are supposedly having second thoughts about voting for Obama.I read on politico that some democrats are even joining the tea bag bowel movement..even a brother rapper who sings at a lot of their gatherings....black tea without milk...that's cool.Just don't piss them off bro,you might not make it home...just look out for that Chevy truck with the chain attached to it.

I have no such regrets because it's quite simple.I can't imagine the country being run by dumber and dumber aka McCain/Palin.By now we would have been in possibly 5 wars and over the cliff economically and morally. You see folks it's simple for me I'm a middle class leftie, left of left progressive and there is nothing any republican administration has done for me...got sick and tired of picking up the scraps off the floor.

They would never get my vote,it's like cutting your nose to spoil your face.Don't listen to me you go back and check off every proposal Obama has put forth for the middle class and less fortunate, including health insurance reform, and see their votes...every single one a big fat NO.Except more troops to Afghanistan....all they care about is War and Killing.

"..just look out for that Chevy truck with the chain attached to it." Do you really think that the Tea Party is composed of people with violent intentions a la lynching? From what I've read about the Tea Party, I'm not seeing 'lynch mob', what I have seen/read, though, is that now at two colleges/universities, someone's found a hangman's noose. To me, this says that there's some college types looking to stir up some trouble...and college people LOVE to play politics, no matter how dishonest it might be.

Speaking of rainbows and sunshine didn't Reagan talk about a "New Day in America" and that "Shining City on a Hill", didn't Bush ramble on about " A thousand points of light"? Didn't "W" talk about 'Compassionate Conservatism'?

Talk about fairy tale metaphors!

I for one am surprised that they didn't claim the unicorn is gay because he's rainbow-propelled.

“The problem with living in a democracy, is that you have to be elected to enact change. The first problem is the election part, and raw politics dictate that you sometimes have to promise things that you know you will not be able to do. This is an unpalatable fact.
The second part is this. Now you are elected, every single person who voted for you, not to mention large influential groups, think that you are obligated to carry out their every wish. After all. they supported you. They are entitled to that. The trick is to keep all your supporters thinking that they are next on the list. It's a delicate balance. On a personal level, I have to ask myself, would I, personally be better off if somebody else was running things. When you answer that, everything becomes a little easier. That does not mean you stop pushing to get the things that are important to you, but that process keeps me sane.â€
If this is the alternative, I'm doing Ok.

Yeah, the Republicans are such hard-notes realists, you know, with wanting to have Creationism and "free market economics" in textbooks.

Oh, the Irony! Hey Republicans keep helping our economy (and our Awesome President) by spending that money on your N A S TY ADs.

Keep spending, it helps the economy and us Democrats!

Rather ironic considering this ad is coming from the party of naivete:
-The war in Iraq will pay for itself
-They will greet us as liberators
-torture works, that''s how we found the WMD's!
-You're either with us or against us
-private contracting saves money
-gays in the military are a threat, but gang and militia members are fine
-everything would be more peaceful if there were just more guns in public settings
-there is no need for regulation, there is no such thing as greed & companies are essentially honorable
-people don't need healthcare reform, charities can pick up the slack
-nothing should come between a doctor and their patient, unless you're pregnant

i don't ever, ever want to hear a GOP ad complain about the obama administration's "lack of transparency" again.

"GOP" is to "lack of transparency" is what "sarah palin" is to "inbred".
