Terry Lakin: Army Officer Joins Birthers, Defies Orders

Lt. Col. Terry Lakin, an Army physician, has refused to obey any orders from his commanding officers -- including President Obama -- until Obama produces his birth certificate.

"Any reasonable person looking critically at the evidence currently in the public domain would have questions about President Obama's claim to be a natural born citizen," Lakin says in the below video released the right-wing American Patriot Foundation. "I will disobey my orders to deploy [to Afghanistan] because I, and I believe all servicemen and women and the American people, deserve the truth about President Obama's constitutional eligibility to the office of the presidency and the commander in chief."

Lakin says this marks the first time during his 18 years in the Army that he has chosen to disobey "what I believe are illegal orders." Evidently he didn't feel the need to personally verify the citizenship of his three previous commanders-in-chief.

This CLOWN is a Lieutenant Colonel in the army and should be capable of understanding and accepting the simple concept that PROOF OF BIRTH IN THE STATE OF HAWAII IS CERTIFIED IN THE ABSTRACT CALLED THE CERTIFICATE OF LIVE BIRTH.
His argument isn’t with Obama it is with the laws of the State of Hawaii. Unless he is really racist as some have suggested during the course of this discussion and he feels that Barack Obama, a Black man, and The Commander-in-chief is still beneath him a White man and when he demands something from that “boy”, he had better comply. Even that buffoon of a lawyer said, “This could be over right now if Barack Obama simply produces his birth certificate”. In other words, “BOY, I don’t care what the laws of Hawaii say, I told YOU to bring me your birth certificate”.

Hope this gentleman enjoys a long stay in Levenworth! The president has clarified this issue numerous times, as well as most news outlets that have investigated this claim! For those that think he is correct in his actions and agree with his message, I thank you for your concern for our country, but please just loosen those aluminum beanies 1 notch and see the reality the sane people of this country do!

It seems that the argument he is making is that he didn't see the document, so it must not be real. If this man is a medical doctor, he would have taken chemistry classes. You don't see electrons, but you learn how they work, and that they do indeed exist. This is just one example of something you don't observe, but will believe.

Other examples of things that you have not seen, but probably should believe were true are:
Slavery. The Holocaust. The moon landing. That your dryer is really not eating your socks, but you are just misplacing them.

I am not saying he is right but one of the greatest things about our country and constitution is that everyone including our Military members have a right to question and speak out. They DO NOT have to take every order given to them enlisted or officer. They have the right to deny the order. Especially if it is egregous. Look what happened in 1989 Tiananmen Square. Where one man stood up to so many tanks. Or Russia when the two tank officers refused to use tank artillary against civilians of their home town they were both killed on the spot sparking a revolution that lead to capatalism in their country. We don't need arevolution but look at what were all doing in this forum. Isn't it great we can say whatever we want and not be prosecuted. I am glad that our soilders don't have to take and carry out every single order without question. What do you think would happen to you if we somehow we got a dictator in power and the greatest army in the world was ordered to without question to disarm every American and quarter your home. Every American soilder would tell them to go to hell and be constitutionlly protected to do so. So don't be so set to send him off to the gallows. Let him speak, he wants our attention for some reason lest you think that right should be taken away from him too.

Of course he has every right to speak. But since what he is saying is so clearly untrue, he is ill-informed at the very least, and unstable at worst. Either way, given military policy, he is inviting a court-martial and I hope that's exactly what he gets. Not the gallows, my friend, just the rule of law.
You might be right about the dictator scenario, but as with much of what the right brings up, it is simply not the case. Not. True. Has nothing whatsoever to do with President Obama or this particular member of the service. To compare this with China or Russia is just rubbish.

The consitution protects all American citizens, except soldiers. You have a right to have an opinion, and you should have one, but more important than your opinion is your duty as a soldier to obey orders and carry out your military assignment. Imagine in a combat situation a soldier were to say "I will not fire my weapon because my enemy has a family like mine and I couldn't bear to see children grow up without a father."
Terry Lakin took an oath to follow the orders of the Commander-In-Chief, our President, and now has violated his oath and violated the Constitution of the United States of America, Article 2 Section 2.
He has a right to refuse to carry out an order but he must be prepared to suffer the punishment. And I think he is aware that he will be punished. I think he's hopeing to get sympathy because of his political views and simply be let out of the military and practice medicine in the civilian world. He may be shocked at the severity of the punishment. He may be incarcerated in a Federal Prison for up to 20 years. And I think he should go to jail. Not because of his views but because, as a soldier, he has decided to pick and choose what orders he will or will not obey, for whatever reason. That's dangerous.

Wrong. Obviously you have the internet, so check it out. Hawaii became a state on Aug. 21, 1959. President Obama was born (unless you don't believe he was really born. Maybe he landed from Pluto?) on Aug. 4, 1961. (I know, I can't believe I'm wasting my time on this either)

Could anyone find anything wrong in LTC Lakin's video statement? I could not. I had to produce a birth certificate for my sons to play Little League. Asking for a birth certificate (signed by the doctor like any regular birth certificate) should not be too much to ask someone to be president.

Some people are claiming that Obama is automatically a citizen because his mother was. Under today's laws that would be true. However, under the law in effect at the time, Obama's mother was too young to convey citizenship to a child. Since she was underage, he needs to produce the signed birth certificate so this will all go away.

For those of you who are critical of LTC Lakin, what will you say if the Supreme Court rules he is correct?
