RNC's Filings Reveal Creative Definitions Of 'Office Supplies'

Campaign Finance

It's been a rough week for the Republican National Committee. When news broke that the RNC spent nearly two grand at a "bondage-themed" Los Angeles nightclub, a whole ton of resentment and disgruntlement bubbled up to the surface. RNC Chairman Michael Steele's leadership was called into question. Key GOP figures like Sarah Palin and Tony Perkins distanced themselves from the committee. And news broke of a new organization, American Crossroads, stepping in to re-attract the big donors that have shunned the RNC.

But, hey: a silver lining! Lindsay Beyerstein has taken a deeper dive into the RNC's filings with the Federal Election Commission, and based upon the organizations procurement habits, and the specific goods that are characterized as "office supplies," it's pretty clear that the RNC is still a fun place to work.

The RNC told the FEC that it spent $982 of its donors' money on "office supplies" from the Boyden Valley Winery last December. "We do not sell office supplies; we are a legal winery operating since 1991 in Cambridge, Vermont," co-owner Linda Boyden told AlterNet.

Between December and February, the RNC bought over $700 worth of so-called "office supplies" from Congressional Liquors, a booze and sandwich shop on Washington, D.C.'s Capitol Hill.

Yeah, woo! It's like MAD MEN over at RNC headquarters and whatnot! Still, apparently some people have objections. Meredith McGehee, the "policy director at the Campaign Legal Center" for example, says, "Liquor is not what a reasonable person would understand an office supply." But what if you are, like me, a totally unreasonable person? See, then, all of this is perfectly legit. Surely the Democratic National Committee has some booze in their office supply cabinet -- how else do you explain the "Martha Coakley campaign?"

The RNC is apparently just as adept at stretching the definition of "meals" as they are with "office supplies":

In December, RNC reimbursed [RNC Deputy Finance Director Debbie] LeHardy for $453 worth of "meals" from Henri Bendel, a posh boutique on New York's Fifth Avenue. Bendel's is an upscale source for costume jewelery, handbags and make-up. The store bills itself as a "Girls' Playground for trendsetting young women from around the world."

"[W]e do not have a restaurant in the store so I don't know how she would have spent $450 on meals," spokesperson Jodi Mellman wrote in an e-mail.

Is Sarah Palin sure this is an organization she wants to distance herself from?

Remember that famous gathering in Boca Grande, Florida, where RNC Finance Director Rob Bickhart unveiled his famous PowerPoint presentation, mocking donors for being easily manipulated by "access" and "tchochkes?" Well, here's what else they were getting up to at that meeting:

Records also show that LeHardy received reimbursement for $282 spent at Boca Grande Outfitters, which bills itself as "the area's most complete saltwater fly fishing and light tackle outfitter." The report designates the reimbursement for "meals." Aaron Sutcliffe, a clerk at BGO, said the store doesn't sell food.

Well, sure, they don't "sell food." I mean, if you give a man a fish, they become shiftless wards of the state. But if you give a man some high-end fishing gear, they can learn to procure their own food, thus pulling themselves up by their bootstraps, which they probably bought at Bergdorf Goodman on the RNC dime.

Ummm. Even IF you handeds someone that understand the job of accounting - things being listed as "meals" under items that don't seem legit, would be a red flag to a competent accountant or bookeeper, right? So I have to ask here - I mean, there are other places this could go and could be expensed. Why is everything under "meals" when it is so obvisously not? There is "marketing", and other categories this  Read More...

Open Letter to Republicans :

HOW MUCH DOES A LIFE COST ? or (45,000 more that d1e each year from lack of medical care)? ...

YOU HAVE TRIED TO SCORE POLITICAL POINTS and act like you actually stood for something.

Explain how the great republican party has had numerous administrations over a CENTURY to actually do something about people suffering or d1eing ....and did nothing about it .?

MEDICARE - NO
SOCIAL SECURITY - NO

YOUR basic philosophy is that all women MUST give birth, but as soon as that child comes into this world ...pick yourself up by your bootstraps ..and if you need help ..seek charity if the tax cut we gave did not help.

- A tax cut for people that have no jobs
- A tax cut for people that have no homes
- A tax cut for people that have no insurance to seek medical help
- A tax cut so another biillionaire can horde their money and never spend a fraction of it within MULTIPLE lifetimes (even though they try )

Fumble, bumble and stumble away from the fact that THIS BLACK DEMOCRATIC President got er' done while you all tried to obstruct and lie, because the American people saw your callousness.

They saw...Come November they are going to decide they do NOT want the party of NO to be anywhere near the center of power again.

They will vote for the MAN and the Democrats that looked out for them

YES WE WILL!!

How else do you explain the "Martha Coakley campaign?"

With legitimate office supplies. "Use this product only in a well-ventilated area. Deliberately concentrating and inhaling the vapors may cause death or permanent brain damage."

HOW TO BATTLE THE RIGHT'S H8 AND LIES :
-
-
Stay calm - Ratcheting up things will not work - think of that man the other day sitting there being taunted and having money thrown at him - If he gets up to challenge - It turns ugly
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stay on message - Don't get trapped into silly arguments that are only presented to waste your time and wear you down by you exerting energy
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stick together - No matter how the one by your side might have a slightly different way to go about things ..You are STILL on the same team
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Work tirelessly - You can rest after this thing gets done
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Contact - Phone - Write - Get out there - Get involved - Make contacts - Join things
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Research - Educate yourserves - Find out whom is going to represent you and YOUR principles
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stay positive - I always say, you can get more with the message and a kind word rather than just with the message
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
VOTE - How many elections are decided by a few thousand - A few hundred ?

Does Al FRANKEN ring a bell ? Does the term 41 or supermajority ring true ?

EVERY ELIGIBLE WOMAN AND MAN ***** REGISTER AND VOTE ******

Keep the faith friends
YES WE WILL !!

The strategy from the right from day one has been to portray this CENTRIST President as socialist , radical , extreme and and so on.

The modern republican party, or what is left of it (being obliterated by the tea bag gers) is really the ones that are the radicals and extremists ....radical in the sense that they do NOT care if people lose everything (their homes , jobs or health) just as long as they get their tax cuts for themsleves and their big corps and banks behind them .

Even if the President DOES agree to whatever they propose or co-sign ...then they stop in their tracks ...disavow that they ever wanted whatever bill they were in agreement with and then promptly move EVEN FURTHER right or more radical.

This President finally cornered them all ..CENTER stage ...and ticked off one by one all the points ..getting all of them to agree one way or the other ...and then showed how extreme and radical THEY were and really ...

how sensible and reasonable this President was.

Now we wait until the American people can vote out these RADICAL RIGHT WING EXTREMISTS AND OBSTRUCTIONISTS.

So that's the reason people like Boehner, Ryan, McConnell, DeMint, Joe 'YOU LIE ' Wilson, McCain, Graham ant the rest of those Gopers in congress sounds like drunk sailors when they spew their lies.
I hope this investigation of their spending habits can tell us what Backman and Palin is on, because surely it is stronger than booze. I think those two rejects are on crack.

The hunt is on for a copy of the Republican code book.

It will be time-consuming to reverse engineer it from the "facts" we already "know".

Whether it's all about Rush's "pool boy" polishing his "Ferrari" or the next time Jeff Sessions calls POTUS's policies a "trigger"; we know they can't let their flights of fancy go to far lest the base get confused or drowsy.

People are saying the Repubs do not know when to stop spending . They do not want the Dems to spend but it's okay for Repubs . When they leave ofice there is always a huge deficit left behind for the Dems to deal with . When the Dems propose a deficit spending fix program the Repubs cry about the deficit . The last Repub administration had the best money disappearing act of all while in office and on the way out of office they dug and even deeper hole to dump our money in . Some how the Wall Street brokerage firms were told about the hole and went to the bottom of that hole to play catch .
